Astros Luis Valbuena: HOH’s Week 12 Silver Star Winner
It’s another week in the books for your Houston Astros!
And you know what?
They’re still at the top of the AL standings and they hold a commanding five-game lead in the AL West!

This is just great news as the Astros woes just two weeks ago were allowing our competition to catch up.
The Texas Rangers got within two games of the team as they were narrowly losing games that could’ve been winnable.
That was the crazy aspect of that losing streak, they weren’t getting blown out but it was just the misfortune of a miscue that led the Astros to succumb to their opponents.
It was tough to watch as they dropped two series in a row against the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox as it looked that there was a glimmer of hope that they’d get out of the funk but it just wasn’t looking good at the moment.

But that 10-0 win over the Seattle Mariners June 12th was just what the doctor ordered.
They’ve been on a even keel since…
What’s been commendable about this team is their keen ability to be able to knock out the long ball!
These guys continue to keep crushing it, no matter the circumstances and they lead the league with 107 total home runs as a team!
In fact, this team reached another milestone.
What was it?
It was the first time in franchise history that the Astros became the first team in the MLB to reach 100 dingers in a single season!
Wow!
Also it’s important to note that from June 14-21, the Astros had eight straight multi-homer games which certainly caused them to win a lot of games.
They had amassed a 6-2 record during that stretch.
But there’s one guy who’s leading the charge for all this upward movement and he can’t be ignored because of his contributions on the field.
Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — today on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.
We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Silver Star Award…
And this week’s Silver Star Award goes to…
After really stinking it up earlier in the season, Valbuena has really found his groove at the plate.
We already knew that he was solid defender at his position at third base but my concerns when the season started were how would he perform at the plate.
He hasn’t disappointed thus far.
He has 19 home runs on the season which is definitely good for tops on the team and tied for 7th in the majors!
I view him a bit differently now when he steps up to the batter’s box.

I actually think that there’s a good chance he’s going to do something with whatever pitch is thrown at him.
But it seems the Astros hit more home runs off four-seam fastballs than anything so if you’re a pitcher and you’re facing the Astros, you’d better be careful about that fastball — it’s likely going to be crushed by these guys!
For the week, Valbuena has hit .368, with seven hits, five ribbies and three homers through six games and 19 at-bats. He held onto a jaw-dropping 1.362!
So keep it up Luis, Astros Nation is damn proud of ya!
