The Houston Rockets would have been watching the Western Conference Finals from the couch if it weren’t for Josh Smith. The 29-year old veteran will most likely stay in Houston at a lower price because he simply likes it here. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s still getting $26 million from the Detroit Pistons, regardless of the next contract he signs.
Smith’s style is a perfect fit in Houston, especially considering the fact they allow him to shoot (only) wide-open three-pointers. There were numerous moments where he was frustrating to watch but overall he helps the team and can win you games.
Smith is usually quick to redeem himself when he struggles. He’d be a fine starter for the Rockets next year and an even better bench player if Morey’s mind is on Paul Millsap or magically signing LaMarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love.
