Evan Gattis: HOH’s Week 8 Silver Star Award Winner

The Houston Astros continue to keep chugging along as we edge toward the first quarter of the season.

Although they have lost five of their last eight games, most of their bouts were taken all they way to the end with a fight.

The Astros aren’t getting blown out as opposed to the past, they’re staying in games and being smart with the baseball.

You know, the things that good baseball teams are supposed to do.

If the Astros keep it up, they’ll have one their best starts through 50 games in franchise history.

Over the past week, the Astros notched their 30th win of the season being the first time to reach that mark.

In past seasons, we’d be worried if this team would be breaking some futility record.

But not now, things have changed and they’re certainly for the better.

I’m also noticing things are changing a bit at the turnstile too.

I had the opportunity to attend last night’s game against the Chicago White Sox and I was mighty impressed with the turnout.

Now mind you, it wasn’t a sellout but I noticed in increase of the amount of people making their way through the Astros’ spacious concourses of Minute Maid Park.

I actually had to wait to get into the ballpark, something that normally is not the case when I make the trek to downtown to see my team do work.

I’m so used to going through the security checkpoint, getting my metal items out to see and having my ticket scanned all in one swoop.

That was not the case with my visit.

  • Although the Astros did not come out victorious after a few blunders late in the game by our bullpen, the team fought hard through 11 innings.

Despite the string of losses as of late, there’s a lot to be proud of and that starts with the timely hitting our offense is making to win games.

Although not perfect, they’ve hit for power and one guy has been exceptional at what he does night in and out.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — today on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Silver Star Award

And this week’s Silver Star Award goes to…

    Evan Gattis!

After quite a slump to start off the season, Gattis is on one mission — to tear it up and help his team win some ball games!

    More from House of Houston

When you least expect it, he has been there to help the Astros push them over the top!

His intentions are deliberate, his strategy is diversified and that’s why he is having the success that he so deserves!

It has just been a pleasure watching him either get a key hit, pop a mighty home run out to the stands or find some interesting way to get on base!

He hit the game-winning home run today out near the Crawford Boxes to put the Astros up 2-0 followed by Chris Carter provided the final knock-out punch in the Astros eventual 3-0 win over White Sox!

    More from Houston Astros

For the week, Gattis has batted .417 with 10 hits, five ribbies, three doubles, and one triple through 24 at-bats in six games!  His OPS was a whopping 1.337!

    Wow!

It has been awesome seeing you do work this week and I hope you keep this incredible streak of play alive!

    Go ‘Stros!
