Houston Astros: Time To Call Up Carlos Correa!

Sometimes you just know a shot is good when it leaves your hands.

Sometimes you just know that you’ve just made a stellar throw with the pigskin.

Sometimes you just know when you swing, you won’t miss.

The Houston Astros certainly fulfill those characteristics when they decided to draft Carlos Correa No. 1 back in the 2012 MLB Draft.

I recall when I heard the news, it gave me a glimmer of hope that he would be an integral part of the Astros’ future once he comes on board.

The 2012 season was already looking quite dim in terms of success and that news gave me a positive outlook of how things will look down the road.

As we inch closer and closer to the month of June, the point where baseball GMs start to re-assess the roster and make the necessary tweaks as needed, there’s no question that Correa is at the forefront of Jeff Luhnow’s plans of those said tweaks.

One can’t ignore the amazing progress he has made through the ranks of the farm in the short amount of time that he’s been there.

The No. 2 prospect in MLB has crushed at every level that he has been at and there’s no sign of his breakneck momentum slowing down any time soon.

Some guys are just born ready and that man is Correa.

  • Had he not injured his right fibula sliding into third base while with the Lancaster Jethawks last June, the Astros’ Class-A Advanced ball club, I’m sure his ascent would’ve been even quicker.

In fact, Correa stay at the Double-A level was quite short, he only lasted 29 games there before the Astros decided to promote him to Triple-A Fresno May 11th.

Correa batted .385, with 45 hits, 32 ribbies, seven home runs, 15 doubles, 15 stolen bases and a killer 1.185 OPS through 117 at-bats in those 29 games.

    Wow!

Those are video game numbers and it was clear that he was way too advanced for Double-A!

In Triple-A, Correa is batting .265 with 18 hits, eight ribbies, three home runs, four doubles, three stolen bases coupled with a above-average .794 OPS through 68 at-bats and 16 games.

Even though his numbers — except home runs — are slightly down from his Double-A pace, they’re in the hall of very good and many players would kill to have them!

It’s certainly a competition and for all intents and purposes, Correa is winning.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, take a look at this homer he popped this past Tuesday in a home game against the Memphis Redbirds:

Nonetheless, this guy is ready for the big show and it’s going to be a banner day when he finally gets called up.

Us fans will probably be foaming at the mouth as far as envisioning how good this team will be with him in the lineup daily.

With incumbent short stop Jed Lowrie‘s return likely to be within the next couple of months, bringing up Correa to complement Marwin Gonzalez is a no-brainer.

So I implore you Mr. Luhnow to call up Correa now, I’m positive that his presence way pay huge dividends that will make up any financial repercussions you may be worried about for bringing him up a bit early.

I tend to forget that this kid is only 20-years-old so that certainly means his best baseball is still ahead of him.

Just wait, you ain’t seen nothing yet…

    Until then, go ‘Stros!
