What To Do With Jon Singleton?
What an amazing turn of events this Houston Astros season has had as opposed to the past few!
The Astros are perched proudly at the top of the AL West and are neck-and-neck for the top record in the majors!
That’s no easy feat — considering this team has beat quality opponents left-and-right.
It doesn’t matter who they are — this scrappy bunch can rally together and take on any challenge that has been handed to them.
If they’re down a few runs, it doesn’t seem to faze them, they usually find a way to either rally to get back into the game or take over it in its own right.
The way the Astros were able to take care of the Detroit Tigers this series is nothing short of admirable.
The Astros were down a few runs in many of the games of that four-game set but they found a way to rally to get themselves back into the game.
These last two wins over the Tigers really tested their mettle and demonstrated what this team is made of.
And I’m damn proud to see this type of success unfold in front of my eyes!
In past seasons, we’d be more overly concerned about what’s going on at the farm rather than the lackluster product that we had at the highest of levels.
But prospects such as Carlos Correa are churning out a boatload of production and these guys deserve just as much attention as our guys in the majors.
But I have one question.
What’s up with Jon Singleton?

Climbing Tal's Hill
This man is on a mission that has not relented since he started the season at Triple-A Fresno.
He has been absolutely sensational for the Grizzlies and it’s reflecting not only on the scoreboard but in the standings as well.
The 25-18 Grizzlies are at the top of the Pacific Coast Northern Division and have the 4th-best record in the PCL.
He has been a pivotal contributor for their success and I love that he seeming to play with a chip on his shoulder.
His 14 home runs that he has smacked this season are good for tops in the MiLB and it doesn’t appear that there’s any sign that he’s slowing down.

As a matter of fact, he’s batting .291 with 47 ribbies, 46 hits, with a crushing 1.045 OPS through 42 games and 158 at-bats.
He’s getting it done and it’s a far cry from the .168 batting average and 134 strikeouts that he had in the majors last season.
He only has 35 strikeouts at this moment.
He’s making it very difficult for the Astros brass to ignore what he’s doing as well.
The problem is that Chris Carter and Evan Gattis are the primary guys who man first base so there currently is not a spot for Singleton at the moment.
Carter is starting a slight trend in the upward direction as far as his batting and fields quite well so he has it locked up — for now but things can change as June approaches.
That’s usually the time where the front office decides to start evaluating performance as far was what things need to be tweaked for improvement.
Carter is just one of those players that’s too good to designate for assignment but not good enough to deal so I think Jeff Luhnow is monitoring the situation but is not going to make any moves unless things get quite dicey at that position.
I don’t think that will happen.
It’s no secret that the Astros are on the hunt for additional starting pitching so who knows?
Singleton could be dangled but I certainly hope that he doesn’t do that.
His future is right here with the ‘Stros.
Although he got a bit of a pay bump last season when he signed a five-year, $10 million deal with the Astros, his salary is still quite attractive for teams that are interested in his services.

Again, I hope he stays right here because I think he has the potential to do great things here in H-Town.
So as Singleton continues to kill it in Triple-A, he demonstrating that he’s ready whenever it’s his time to be called up.
I’m sure the Astros will time it perfectly.
Keep it going Singleton, proud of ya man!
