Collin McHugh: HOH’s Week 5 Silver Star Award Winner

facebooktwitterreddit

Not that I don’t always enjoy watching my Houston Astros all of the time, this season has truly been a special one.

Despite the challenges these guys have with injuries, they’ve been able to surmount them head on and still continue to win.

It certainly was tough hearing about the news of Jed Lowrie‘s thumb injury and George Springer‘s concussion causing both to miss some time.

We won’t have Jed for a couple of months because of mandatory surgery and Springer looks to be back soon.

With George, when he hit the wall earlier this week when trying to catch a fly ball hit by Adrian Beltre this past Tuesday when they faced the Texas Rangers.

He hit the wall hard and sources were saying that the impact could be heard as far north as FM 1960.

Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating and stretching the truth but it seemed to be a nasty collide with the outfield wall.

Springer is currently on the seven-day disabled list as he recovers but should be back in the lineup as soon as he is cleared to play.

But just knowing how Springer is, there’s just not any other way that he’d play the game.

He only knows one speed and that’s overdrive!

Jose Altuve has ascended back to the mantle of the Astros’ production after starting out kind of rocky the first couple of weeks of the season.

The outlook for the Astros is fantastic and my optimism is at an all-time high.

Yep, you guessed it, the Astros are now 20-11 with their 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels tonight and it seems this team is certainly poised for more.

    I want to see more!

But despite the success, you can’t discount the remarkable job the pitching staff has done throughout this season thus far.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — today on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Silver Star Award

And this week’s Silver Star Award goes to…

    Collin McHugh!

This guy has been pitching lights out the whole season and he’s definitely one of the many reasons why the Astros continue to figure ways to beat their opponents.

    More from House of Houston

Even though our guys don’t always necessarily give the run support that a pitcher needs, our staff still perseveres and ensure they do their part to help the team win.

This past week, McHugh posted a 2.45 ERA, fanned seven batters, allowed only five hits and two earned runs.  He kept his WHIP strong and steady at 0.86 and maintained a solid 8.59 K/9 rate.

He’s just one of those pitchers where if he’s at the mound, you know things are going to be okay with his deliberate but faceted style.

How has he continued his success?

    More from Houston Astros

The man has simply shied way from using his fastball as much and has turned to the breaker ball to keep on wheeling and dealing!

One can certainly attribute it to that.

Nonetheless, Collin has solidified himself as being an important part of the Astros’ future and he’s only 27-years-old!

So keep doing what you’re doing Collin and continue to make us proud while on the mound.

    Go ‘Stros!
