2015 NFL Draft Round 7: Texans Select RB Kenny Hilliard
With their 18th pick and last pick of the day in Round 7 (235th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select…
Kenny Hilliard!
The Texans now need to focus on a eventual successor for Arian Foster as he is a year older which is exponential in terms of running back’s years.
It’s essential and one can look no further than the Seattle Seahawks as far as their success with their running game with Marshawn Lynch eventually leading to a Super Bowl win.
Now is the time more than ever to ensure that the Texans can’t miss in these later rounds because a lot of these guys found will likely have a solid role on our roster.
You don’t have to take my word for it, ESPN’s Trey Wingo mentioned that 33 percent of an NFL team’s final roster are filled with picks in Rounds 4 through 7.

That’s an interesting stat so the Texans will need to do everything they can to make it count and ensure that our fan base is proud of their work.
After all, it’s the fans that our the fuel to the NFL’s massive engine right?
I’m thrilled that the Texans were able to get such a find in this round and Hilliard could certainly could be a diamond-in-the rough.
Hilliard is another player in LSU’s system of playing whichever running back had the hot hand.
Lest we forget that the Texans selected fellow former teammate Alfred Blue in last year’s draft.
Hilliard stands 6’0″, at 226 pounds and has a 31 1/4″ arm length and 9 1/4″ hands.
Hilliard gets praises for his speed, his ability to find holes when the ball is shoveled to him and is exceptional at protecting himself and the football.

However, he continues to be criticized for not being evasive enough in his running game and his creativity is near non-existent.
Hilliard is a project at best but he’s got the right staff to work with that seems have a strong affinity for developing football players.
He has a lot of competition at that position and it remains to be seen that he’ll make the team but the one thing going for him is that he has a shot.
That’s more than what hundreds of undrafted football players will get.
Patrick Starr of State of Texans mentioned that he had a private workout with the Texans and some stats:
Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com gave his blessing:
Hilliard had 302 carries for 1,557 yards — 5.3 yards per carry — for 27 touchdowns in four seasons at LSU.
However, he failed to reach 100 carries in each of those seasons, likely because of the immense amount of backs they’ve had over the years.
Welcome to H-Town Kenny — go Texans!
