  • Charles Gaines is a former wide receiver that has converted to corner back.  A two-way player in high school Gaines actually came to Louisville as a wide receiver and started his career there.  As a result he plays the ball and the quarterback much better than many cornerbacks.  He reads the quarterbacks eyes well and consistently looks to break on the ball and make a play.

Gaines ran a 4.44 at the combine and has good arm length 31 3/8” for his height.  His experience as a receiver also allows him to read the route better and rarely bites on fakes or double moves.

Gaines has excellent quickness and is very fluid as a corner but he’s a player just scratching the surface of the position as he develops and strikes me as a player that has the physical talent to vault to a starter’s role with quality NFL defensive coaching.

Here is a clip of Gaines going up against South Florida and Blake Bortles in 2013 including a 70 yard interception return for a touchdown.
