Ty Montgomery – Wide Receiver/Kick Returner

Ty Montgomery is a unique player. Most of his snaps in college have come as a wide receiver, however he is built more like a running back with thick legs and he has lined up in the back field as well as playing quarterback in Wildcat formations.
Montgomery ran a 4.55 at the combine but plays faster than that in game action. He’s also a tremendous athlete with a 40.5 inch vertical and a 10 foot broad jump as well as a sub-7 seconds, 3-cone drill time. Here is Montgomery against UC Davis in 2014.

As a receiver Montgomery shows good separation and good hands. He also lined up both outside and inside at the slot and we know how much the Texans Bill O’Brien loves versatile players. Many believe Montgomery could make it in the NFL on his return ability alone. This makes Montgomery a perfect 5th or 6th round selection for the Texans as he would possibly be their 2nd receiver taken.
As poorly as the return game was for the Texans the coaching staff has openly talked about his off-season improving that. They have also brought Montgomery in for a meeting and workout.
