Houston is in desperate need of depth in their linebacking corps, especially on the inside, prompting several online mock drafts to pencil in Paul Dawson‘s name as a potential pick for the Texans. Dawson had an extremely productive 2014 campaign that culminated in his being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, as he led TCU with 136 tackles, including 20 tackles for loss.
Few question Dawson’s talent, but there are plenty of questions about his character. Lance Zierlein noted in his NFL.com draft profile of Dawson that “scouts are very worried about his personal character” and that “questions have been raised about his commitment to the process.”
With head coach Bill O’Brien already voicing his frustrations with another recent draft pick’s commitment (or lack thereof), does he really want to invest a high pick on another potential problem child? I seriously doubt it.
