Houston Texans: Why Not Brett Hundley?

I’m loving this!

The Houston Texans are being quite aggressive in terms of doing things to make this team better!

For that, I applaud them for doing so.

With the Texans being amongst the world’s most valuable sports franchises, this is something that should be expected out of them to keep us fans happy.

So far, we’ve been able to nail Vince Wilfork — he’s a pretty big guy to tie down period — as well as a quality free agent in Cecil Shorts, grabbing some additional help with Nate Washington and Damaris Johnson.

And we were able to resign Kareem Jackson, Akeem Dent and starting quarterback hopeful Ryan Mallett.

Oh yeah, Brian Hoyer‘s a Texan too…

Please excuse me for not being overzealous about signing him — not that he’s inept or incapable of doing the job, it’s just that we’ve likely seen Hoyer’s ceiling.

And to me, that’s not enough to take my team to the Super Bowl, which is what all of us want, isn’t that correct?

Mallett is the unknown — we’ve only seen one good game out of him before he was injured and that guy looks like he’s ready to shatter the mold!

He may be the biggest godsend in Texans’ history or his name would be added to the long list of quarterbacks in franchise history that were busts.

It’s quite long — I’ll have to save that for another post.

But word out on the street is that the Texans are talking to yet another quarterback!

Who could that be?

None other than UCLA standout Brett Hundley!

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported this news first:

The Texans did not have their formal interview with Hundley at the NFL Combine so they invited him to H-Town to complete it.

This action by the Texans may be more procedural than anything but the fact that the team is taking time out of their schedule to meet him definitely means something to me!

This quarterback has got the “it” factor and is the total package.

He’s not completely refined but with Bill O’Brien known to develop quarterbacks, Hundley may be a project that he’s licking his chops for!

The guy can sling it and has got some legs from under him to evade if his pocket gets flushed, two good tools to make it in the NFL.

He’s just an exciting quarterback to watch and I think he could win Texans’ fans over through and through.

With Hundley likely to be a second-round pick, the Texans owe it to themselves to take him off the board if he’s available.

In the 2nd round, they have the No. 19 pick (51st overall) so he may be gone by then.

So if that’s the case, I honestly feel that he’s the type of QB that he’s worth trading up to get.

He’s smart, carries himself in a professional manner and has all of the attributes of what the Texans look for in a player.

I like Ryan Mallett, I really do, but it’s paramount that one has a backup plan just in case he doesn’t pan out and Hundley would be the man for the job.

I know that we’re already carrying Tom Savage as well — although he’s making some progress, I’d clear room for Hundley in a heartbeat.

He just doesn’t have the tools at this point that Hundley has.

Hundley threw 75 touchdowns to 25 interceptions for 9,966 yards with a 67.6 completion percentage and a gleaming 151.1 passing rating in three seasons with UCLA.

Not to mention that he has 1,747 yards rushing in his career as well!

A lot those numbers put him in the Top 10 all-time for the Pac-12 amongst quarterbacks as well.

Wow!

So with all of this being said, I implore the Texans to do whatever it takes within their means to go get him!

They won’t regret it.

Bring me that arm and those legs!

Go Texans!
