5. Texans Rebound Strong In 2014

Who knew all it took was a new coach in town?!?

The Texans came off a 2-14 season in 2013 and entered 2014 needing a facelift. Exit former head coach Gary Kubiak and quarterback Matt Schaub, enter Bill O’Brien and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

  • O’Brien did an excellent job reshaping the franchise in the offseason and leading them towards a playoff push in 2014 – remember folks, you can never count on Cleveland for anything. But it wasn’t just O’Brien responsible for the push. DeAndre Hopkins took a huge step forward, Mike Mohammed and Akeem Dent proved to be better than mannequins at ILB, the Texans secondary wasn’t abysmal, and Randy Bullock decided to be a pretty solid kicker.

The Texans also had Arian Foster for most of the season, a huge reason for their success. Brian Cushing was relatively healthy as well and the Texans for the most part escaped many major injuries. Sure, they pretty much got nothing from their first overall pick in Jadeveon Clowney, but Whitney Mercilus and Jared Crick did a solid job opposite some guy named J.J. Watt.

So yes, the Texans’ arrow is pointing up. They should have a new quarterback next season, possibly Ryan Mallett, who should improve the offensive numbers. They should have Jadeveon Clowney healthy (hopefully) as well as some new talent from the draft – assuming GM Rick Smith doesn’t cut everyone afterwards.

Next year should be a fun one, that is assuming they get someone else to return kicks and punts not named Keshawn Martin.

I’m excited for next season…so should you!
