Houston Astros Gave GM Jeff Luhnow Extension In Past Year
By Yoni Pollak
The Houston Astros have reportedly given GM Jeff Luhnow an extension sometime within the past year, according to Evan Drellich (Houston Chronicle).
"As successful a businessman as they come, Astros owner Jim Crane believes his team’s plan is working, and he has rewarded its architect. The Chronicle has learned that within the last year, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow received a contract extension. The extension, previously unreported, stands as a vote of confidence for the executor of the Astros’ plan to move from a rebuilding era into a period where the club fires on virtual pistons, pumping out big leaguers and championships with consistency."
That clears the air about whether Jeff Luhnow is on the hot seat.

Well to be fair, Luhnow is probably still on the hot seat if he totally screws up this season, but otherwise it appears Owner Jim Crane has completely bought in to the “Luhnow way” and is willing to give him the full opportunity to accomplish his rebuilding plan.
Luhnow hasn’t really made any big splashes yet as the GM of the Astros. He traded for Dexter Fowler and signed Scott Feldman to a 3-year, $30 million deal last offseason, both of which are his biggest moves under his tenure as Astros GM.
This offseason has been dubbed by many as the biggest in the franchise’s last five years so Luhnow is expected to make several key moves to improve the team to a near .500 record in 2015. Only time will tell if Luhnow deserved the extension or not.
