Most Astros fans know that third base was probably the weakest position on the diamond this season. Matt Dominguez complied -1.6 WAR this past season.
This off season, Sandoval will probably be one of the best free agent hitters out there, coming off a season where he hit .279 with 16 HR, 73 RBI. In his seven year career Sandoval has compiled WAR over 21 while being an underrated defensive player at third base. The 28-year old third baseman still has plenty of years left though some are weary of signing a guy who could have weight problems down the line (Carlos Lee). Given his recent success Sandoval stands to get a big pay day, north of $100 million.
If the Astros really want to improve third base, Sandoval could be a great option for the future.
