5. Jadeveon Clowney’s Progress

Jadeveon Clowney has a unique combination of size, power, and speed. He received criticism from some analysts saying he wasn’t fundamentally sound on some of his techniques. Those same critics believed that Clowney would have been the top pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, had he been available.

As with any number one pick comes high expectations and as long as Clowney suffers no lingering effects from surgery, it will be surprising if he is not the league’s most productive rookie this season.

More from Houston Texans

Clowney has been in rehab, in Houston, after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia and said he is unsure on a definitive time for his return.

He wasn’t listed on Monday’s PUP list, while fellow rookie Louis Nix III, was placed on the list. This likely means the healing process for Clowney is going well enough to allow him to hit the practice field on Saturday morning when training camp begins.

He will rejoin the practices at some point during camp, and his switch from a defensive end, as a South Carolina Gamecock, to outside linebacker as a professional will be interesting to see.
