3. Savage vs. Keenum

Currently, Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starter and Keenum is the team’s backup, but the Houston Texans used the first pick of the fourth round on quarterback Tom Savage.

Savage was fourth on the depth chart during OTA’s and mini-camp but was able to move up a spot when the Texans dealt signal-caller T.J. Yates to Atlanta for inside linebacker, Akeem Dent.

Quarterback’s coach, George Godsey, described Savage as a “hungry young man” who is willing to work on weekends and study during his off-time.

We will look to see how many snaps Savages will get in the four preseason contests and that will be a good gage on how well he is adopting to Houston’s playbook and the speed of the NFL game.

In Savage’s lone season at Pitt he threw for almost 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns on 61% passing. The rookie could eventually see playing time this year and Albert Breer is curious about his upcoming season.

Should be interesting to watch!
