Houston Astros MiLB Week In Review

As always there were some great performances this week. Unfortunately the Houston Astros top prospect, Carlos Correa, went down with an injury to his ankle and will definitely miss some time.

Carlos Correa Injury

L.J. Hoes is making a push to be recalled to Houston. He put together a great week. Here are the numbers:

AAA: Oklahoma City Redhawks (42-36) went 4-3 this week.

  • L.J. Hoes, OF: .391 BA (9-23), 8 R, 2B, 5 RBI, 3 SB

Man, Enrique Hernandez sure has been a pleasant surprise. He has flown under the radar during his minor league career but continues to hit. He is now hitting .328 with 12 2B, 2 3B, 7 HR, 26 RBI in AAA. He has only struck out 19 times in 59 games. L.J. Hoes has been on a tear too. He is hitting .329 in AAA. In his last 10 games he is hitting .487 with 4 2B and 6 RBI. Santana had a nice week and now has 19 2B and 11 HR this season.

Tropeano had a great outing to start the week going 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 SO. He now has a 2.28 ERA on the season. Brett Oberholtzer continues to pitch well. I would think he will get another shot in Houston some time this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (36-40) went 2-5 this week.

  • Luis Cruz, LHP: 11.1 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 SO

The Corpus Christi offense has not been very good of late. Jonathan Meyer was one of the bright spots this week hitting .333. He is still struggling though only hitting .215 in AA. Unfortunately, Delino DeShields has really hit a bad skid and is only hitting .167 over his last 10 games.

The pitching was good this week though. Rodgers finally got back on track. He has only walked 10 batters in 67.2 IP this season. With the nice week Luis Cruz lowered his season ERA to 3.18. Shirley is still rolling along. He has a 1.90 ERA this season in 75.2 IP with 53 H, 15 BB, 69 SO. Rollins has a 2.84 ERA in 38 IP with 10 BB/40 SO.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (46-28) went 2-2 this week.

  • Tony Kemp, 2B: .294 BA (5-17), 4 R, RBI, 3 SB
  • Rio Ruiz, 3B: .333 BA (6-18), 2 R, 3B, 2 RBI
  • Mark Appel, RHP: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO

Conrad Gregor has been on an absolute tear since joining Lancaster. He is .388 with 6 2B, 5 HR, 20 RBI since his promotion. Teoscar Hernandez hit a little slump but put together a nice four game stretch with 5 XBH. His average is sitting at .299 with 20 2B, 7 3B, 13 HR so far this season. Ruiz’s average continues to rise to now up to .292.

Hader just keeps on sending them down. Season ERA is now at 2.27 through 71.1 IP. I think we are moving away from the small sample size territory and its time to realize this dude is legit. He also has 78 SO in those 71.1 IP

Emanuel had a nice start this week. Though he has struggled somewhat this season he has only walked 6 batters in 39.2 IP good for a 1.4 BB/9. Also Appel returned and made a decent start. Just nice to see some improvement from him.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (36-36) went 1-2 this week.

Not much to talk about this week since QC only played 3 games due to rain and all star break.

A-: Tri-City Valleycats (6-4) went 4-3 this week.

  • A.J. Reed, 1B: .280 BA (7-25), 5 R, 2B, 4 RBI, 6 BB/3 SO, SB
  • J.D. Davis, 3B: .259 BA (7-27), 3 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI
