Houston Astros MiLB Week In Review
Alright folks, there were some promotions and roster shakeups this week.
To OKC: Matt Duffy, Joe Sclafani
To CC: Jonathan Meyer, Carlos Perdomo, Tyson Perez
To LC: David Mayfield, Conrad Gregor
I might have missed some but that just about covers it. As always there were some great performances this week. Young pitchers keep on dealing and Correa had another awesome week.
AAA: Oklahoma City Redhawks (31-27) went 3-4 this week.
- Jon Singleton, 1B: .250 BA (5-20), 4 R, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 6 BB/4 SO
- Domingo Santana, RF: .280 (7-25), 3 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI
- Ronald Torreyes, SS: .333 BA (6-18), R, RBI
- Michael Foltynewicz, RHP: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 SO
- Nick Tropeano, RHP: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO
- Rudy Owens, LHP: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO
- David Martinez, RHP: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO
Singleton continues to do well. He has 14 HR, 43 RBI, 42 BB/52 SO in 54 games. Santana had a decent week but has been striking out quite a bit recently, though he does have 15 2B, 9 HR, 36 RBI in 57 games.
Folty has really been rolling lately. He is making it known he is a top prospect. He now has struck out 55 batters in 55.2 IP. Folty hasn’t given up more than 2 ER since April 11th. At this point in the season he has the lowest walk rate since 2012. His time in the MLB may be coming soon. Tropeano is also pitching great. He has a 2.63 ERA and a respectable 2.6 BB/9 and 8.2 SO/9.
AA: Corpus Chrisit Hooks (29-27) went 3-4 this week.
- Nolan Fontana, 2B: .278 BA (5-18), 5 R, 2 2B, RBI
- Preston Tucker, OF: .357 BA (10-28), 4 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI
- Delino DeShields, CF: .217 BA (5-23), 4 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 7 SB
- Kyle Smith, RHP: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO
- Thomas Shirley, LHP: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO
- Brady Rodgers, RHP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO
- Jordan Jankowski, RHP: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO
- David Rollins, LHP: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO
Preston Tucker has done very well this season. He now has 16 2B, 13 HR, 36 RBI in 55 games. Though DeShields didn’t hit too well, he did steal 7 bases and has 24 total in only 36 games which would be on pace for 108 SB per 162 games. DeShields also has 5 HR this season which is as many as he had all of last season.
Kyle Smith has been great after a couple of rough outings to start CC. In his last 4 outings Smith has gone 22.1 IP, 13 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 22 SO. Shirley continues to pitch great. I do’nt know what he has to do at this point to get promoted. He has a 1.54 ERA in 52.2 IP with 13 BB/52 SO. Nice to see Rodgers get back on track too.
A+: Lancaster Jethawks (35-23) went 6-1 this week.
- Carlos Correa, SS: .370 BA (10-27), 5 R, 3 2B, HR, 9 RBI, 4 SB
- Rio Ruiz, 3B: .400 BA (10-25), 6 R, 3 2B, 4 RBI
- Conrad Gregor, 1B: .294 BA (5-17), 2 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB/2 SO
- Roberto Pena, C: .315 BA (6-19), 5 R, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, SB
- Tony Kemp, 2B: .250 BA (8-32), 7 R, 2B, 3 RBI
- Danry Vasquez, RF: .375 BA (9-24), 5 R, 2 RBI
- Josh Hader, LHP: 7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 SO
- Chris Devenski, RHP: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO
- Lance McCullers, RHP: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO
- Kyle Westwood, RHP: 10.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO
- Kent Emanuel, LHP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO
Carlos Correa sure is impressing this season. He is now hitting .320 with 12 2B, 3 3B, 5 HR, 48 RBI, 14 SB in 48 games. I think his days are numbered in Lancaster as he is ready for a promotion. Great to see Ruiz get hot too. Ruiz is up to .296 with 15 2B. He also has 33 BB/40 SO on the season. Vasquez has got his season average up to .263, though he still hasn’t hit for much power. Kemp had a slow week by his standards but still scored 7 R giving him 64 R in 56 games.
Pitching was great this week. Hader has continued his hot streak. He has a 2.44 ERA in 55.1 IP with 19 BB/69 SO and a WHIP of 0.99. McCullers has struggled of late but put together a good start this week. He has 10.7 SO/9. Emanuel has been up and down in Lancaster but had a good start this week. He has only given up 1.5 BB/9 in Lancaster. Also not shown up top but Appel returned to Lancaster and did not fare well. He went 1.1 IP, 10 H, 10 ER, 3 HR, 1 BB, 2 SO.
A: Quad Cities River Bandits (29-26) went 5-1 this week.
- Brett Phillips, CF: .333 BA (7-21), 5 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SB
- Chan Moon, SS: .320 BA (8-25), 4 R, 2B, 3B, 6 RBI, 5 SB
- Brian Holberton, C: .300 BA (6-20), 5 R, 2 2B, HR, RBI
- Tyler White, 3B: .357 BA (5-14), 2 R, 3 2B, RBI
- Ronnie Mitchell, OF: .409 BA (9-22), 5 R, 2B, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 2 SB
- Michael Feliz, RHP: 5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 SO
- Evan Grills, LHP: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO
- Jandel Gustave, RHP: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO
- Adrian Houser, RHP: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO
Nice week for QC. Phillips has been pretty consistent this season hitting .305. He has 9 2B, 7 3B and 3 HR on the season. Holberton is proving that QC is no challenge for him. He is hitting .353 with 12 2B, 4 HR, 22 RBI, 9 BB/14 SO in 33 games. Moon has been a very pleasant surprise this season. Good average – .293, good BB to SO – 23 BB/34 SO, good SB – 23 in 53 games. Mitchell was hot this week. He homered in four straight games and had at least two RBI in 5 straight games.
Feliz with a wonderful start. He looked just as dominant as he did last season. Since returning from injury he has gone 18 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 23 SO. Grills has a 3.42 ERA in 52.2 IP. Houser has put together a pretty nice run of late. ERA is now at 3.77.
