TE C.J. Fiedorowicz
This pick was probably the most surprising out of all the Texans selections. Why would the team spend a third round pick on a primarily blocking tight end? Well, because Bill O’Brien did not see Garrett Graham or Ryan Griffin as being efficient enough as blockers. Graham and Griffin are the first two tight ends on the depth chart, but neither of these players are known for their blocking ability.
This is where Fiedorowicz comes into play. Fiedorowicz is seen as a poor man’s Rob Gronkowski, which is nothing to scoff at. At first, he will most likely see the field primarily on rushing downs, which will be greatly beneficial for Arian Foster and the Texans rushing attack. I doubt Fiedorowicz will create the same amount of fantasy buzz as Garrett Graham, but he will no doubt do the dirty work that will be essential for a Texans team looking to become tougher and more focused on the run game.
Fiedorowicz could also become a primary end-zone target for whoever is throwing the pigskin for the Texans. However, I think that will be a gradual development for a team that has the luxury of fielding receiving studs such as Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, and Garrett Graham. Nonetheless, Fiedorowicz should be a key component for this team going forwards and has the opportunity to flourish in O’Brien’s offense.
