The Houston Astros minor league system didn’t have a great week last week, but they sure made up for it this time around. The Redhawks, Hooks, Jethawks, and River Bandits went a combined 20-6 for the week. There were some great pitching performances and hitting performances this week.

AAA: Oklahoma City Redhawks (8-3) went 6-1 this week.

Oklahoma City Redhawks played all seven games versus the New Orleans Zephyrs and outscored them 45-21.

Austin Wates, OF: .379 BA (11-29), 8 R, 4 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 5 SB

Jonathan Singleton, 1B: .400 BA (10-25), 8 R, 4 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI

George Springer, RF: .310 BA (9-29), 6 R, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, 3 SB

Max Stassi, C: .292 BA (7-24), 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI

Rudy Owens, LHP: 9.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO

Paul Clemens, RHP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO

Nick Tropeano, RHP: 8.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO

For the “Nitro” lovers out there, it looks like he has got it going recently. Very encouraging to see Jonathan Singleton hitting and hitting for power (7 XBH this week). Wates and Springer have been great at the top of the lineup for OKC and it wouldn’t shock me to see Wates called up the Astros some time this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (8-2) went 5-1 this week.

The Hooks played 3 games against Springfield Cardinals, winning all 3, and 3 games against the Tulsa Drillers, winning 2 of 3.

Preston Tucker, OF: .321 BA (9-28), 4 R, 2B, HR, 5 RBI

Enrique Hernandez, 2B: .440 BA (11-25), 6 R, 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI

Delino DeShields, CF: .320 BA (8-25), 6 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, SB

Brady Rodgers, RHP: 9.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO

Ross Seaton, RHP: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO

Luis Cruz, LHP: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO

The Hooks strong point will most likely be the starting pitching. Brady Rodgers has pitched great so far this season and has maintained his good peripherals from last season. Preston Tucker has continued to hit well and should be in line for a promotion to OKC sometime this season.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (8-3) went 6-1 this week.

The Jethawks played 7 games this week. They played 3 against San Jose and won all 3. Lancaster then had a four game series against Lake Elsinore winning the first 3 and losing the last one in extra innings.

Anthony Kemp, 2B: .414 BA (12-29), 9 R, 3 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 3 SB

Teoscar Hernandez, OF: .385 BA (10-26), 6 R, 2B, 4 3B, HR, 8 RBI, 4 SB

Rio Ruiz, 3B: .308 BA (8-26), 2 2B, 3 RBI

Vincent Velasquez, RHP: 9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R,  0 ER, 0 BB, 9 SO

Josh Hader, LHP: 9.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 SO

Mark Appel, RHP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO

Teoscar Hernandez has really been on a tear this season. Up to this point he has mainly been all potential but he has really put it together so far this year. Velasquez is pitching like a man possessed, 13 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 16 SO. Josh Hader has also been pitching well and it is nice to see Appel having a good start too.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (5-5) went 3-3 this week.

The River Bandits played 3 games against Lansing and 3 against Great Lakes.

Brett Phillips, OF: .440 BA (11-25), 3 R, 3B, 5 RBI

James Ramsay, OF: .388 BA (7-18), 4 R, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SB

Conrad Gregor, 1B: .348 BA (8-23), 3 R, 2B, 5 RBI

Kent Emanuel, LHP: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO

Evan Grills, LHP: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO

Chris Lee, LHP: 9.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO

Conrad Gregor is really getting it going, at least 2 hits in four straight games. Also QC sure does have a lot of big lefties, highlighted by the three names above.

Once again this will wrap up another successful week for the Houston Astros minor league system. Sure is nice to see certain guys like Singleton, Hernandez, Tucker, and Kemp playing well this early on. Keep it here for daily and weekly minor league updates, and don’t forget, GO ASTROS!!
