5. Scott Feldman

We begin with the biggest (monetary) acquisition of the winter.  After spending a majority of his career with the Drunken Sailors Rangers, Feldman comes to us in free agency, for 3 years, $30 million.

With a career ERA of 4.62, many in the national media lambasted the Astros for overpaying the 31-year old righty, but last year with the Cubs and Orioles Feldman posted a career best ERA of 3.86 and neared a career high in innings, with 181.2. Feldman’s stuff isn’t overwhelming, but he doesn’t walk many and seems poised to eat a lot of innings and provide a veteran presence for the young Astros pitching rotation.
