David Horst is Ready

Horst came into this match with big shoes to fill, replacing departed leader Bobby Boswell after missing nearly the entire 2013 season with injury. He soon left fans saying, “Bobby Who?” with a performance that can only be described as dominant against a dangerous New England attack.

Horst showed off his size and strength in the air, winning every 50/50 ball that came his way. He frequently cut off attacks before they started by stepping up in the midfield to intercept passes and start counter-attacks. His interception and long pass to Giles Barnes in the opening minute of the match gave the Dynamo the numbers advantage that led to the opening goal by Will Bruin.

Horst’s block of a Diego Fagundez shot in added time of the 1st half likely saved a goal and left Fagundez crumpled on the pitch. Perhaps more importantly, Horst demonstrated an ability to turn and run down attackers; something Boswell was unable to do last season when caught out of position.

Horst was not entirely mistake free. He got caught ball watching in the 2nd half, letting Revs forward Jerry Bengston get by him to get on the end of a Fagundez scoop which should have resulted in a goal. He was also let the speedy Fagundez get behind him late in the 2nd half but was saved by Taylor who cleaned things up.

All-in-all, however, this was a promising debut. As Horst & Taylor become more familiar with each other and Horst continues to get his feet under him, the Dynamo could clean up the gaps in the middle of the defense which so often plagued them last season.
