1. The Houston Texans Season

Nothing went right for this team in 2013.

I’m going to skip over that playoff loss to the New England Patriots at the beginning of the season. That was downright embarrassing.

Super Bowl contenders. That’s what this season was all about. We had the pieces, or so we thought. The Texans season turned into a Kansas City Shuffle.

What’s a Kansas City Shuffle? I’ll let Mr. GoodKat answer that for you.

"A Kansas City Shuffle is when everybody looks right, you go left. It’s not something people hear about. Falls on deaf ears mostly. This particular one has been over twenty years in the making. No small matter. Requires a lot of planning. Involves a lot of people. People connected only by the slightest of events. Like whispers in the night, in that place that never forgets, even when those people do. It starts with a horse.” – Mr. Goodkat"

This particular Kansas City Shuffle was 8 years in the making.

It starts with an interception.

“The Matt Schaub Effect” was the catalyst. After each interception the team seemed to spiral out of control. This team started to feed off very bad thing that happened on the field.

Everything was connected by the slightest event:

Randy Bullock, missing field goals. Offensive red zone struggles.

Derek Newton.

Ed Reed trolling the Texans by forgetting to mention he needs a new hip.

Brian Cushing getting his knee torn up again.

DeAndre Hopkins genitals on Instagram.

Special Teams.

Antonio Smith‘s conspiracy theory.

Ben Tate calling the fans wishy-washy.

Arain Foster ending up on the back of a milk carton. Has anyone seen this guy? Case Keenum/Matt Schaub Quarterback Controversy.

Andre Johnson nearly going Buddy Ryan on Matt Schaub on the sideline.

Do I need to keep going?

Everything was strategically pieced together by one man. Gary Kubiak.

Gary didn’t want these things to happen. But he lost this team. That’s what happens when you let your players call you “Kubes”.

Defenses had figured out his offense.

The pressure was on, and he knew his job was on the line.

Right when you think that they might end the losing streak against the Colts. Gary has a mini stroke at halftime. I like to throw jabs a Gary, because he sets himself up so well. But when the mini-stroke happened I was real mad at this team. This guy was killing himself trying to study film and win games. The players didn’t respect him enough to lay it out there every Sunday.

The 2013 Houston Texans imploded. We thought they were Super Bowl bound. Instead of being the best team in the NFL, they were the worst.

It was a double bluff. We weren’t a good team, and we didn’t go to the Super Bowl. We were left for dead. That’s a Kansas Shuffle.

To end this on a good note. Maybe, just maybe, this was actually the best moment of 2013 in Houston Sports. We were never going to win anything with Gary and Matt. This needed to happen, to start over.

Happy New Year!
