1. Houston Texans Defeat Cincinnati Bengals (January 5th)
It wasn’t as pretty as the playoff win over the Bengals just a year before but a win in the playoffs is a win in the playoffs. The Texans defeated the Bengals 19-13 and advanced to face the New England Patriots the following week.
In many ways, that game was a foreshadowing to what we were going to see the whole 2013 season as Schaub struggled in the redzone, and the Texans could only score a TD one out of the four times they were inside the Bengals 20-yard line. The difference in this game was that our defense was pretty impressive back then. Now not so much.
Arian Foster led the Texans with 140 rushing yards and a score. I remember feeling so great after that win and legitimately thinking the Texans had a shot in Foxboro. Well I was wrong. One week later, after a Danieal Manning returned a kickoff 94-yards to the Patriots 12-yard line, Schaub couldn’t connect with his receivers and the Texans were forced to kick a FG. The Texans were within 4 at the half but Brady and the Patriots dominated the second half en-route to the AFC Championship game.
Even though the Texans playoff win was from the 2012 season, the actual playoff win was just 5 days into 2013 and made the way to number 1 on our list. Playoff wins are hard to come by in the NFL, and with the Texans following up a 12-4 season with a 2-14 season, the playoff win against the Bengals makes it to number 1 on our list!
