4. Houston Astros Defeat Texas Rangers On Opening Night (March 31st)

Sure, it was a long and grueling season for the Astros that saw them finish with 100+ losses for the third straight season in a row. Trust me, I covered it with our friends at Climbing Tal’s Hill. We all fought through it. But for one day last year we were the happiest fans in major-league baseball. Why? Because the season started off in the best way possible with a 8-2 win over the Texans Rangers.

For one night, the Astros had the best record in the AL West, the AL, and in all of major-league baseball. Boy, did that feel great!

It was Bud Norris and Erik Bedard who held the Rangers in check. Norris got the win after allowing 2 runs in 5.2 IP. Bedard got the save after keeping the Rangers scoreless through the remaining 3.1 innings. Justin Maxwell had a 2-RBI triple in the game and Rick Ankiel sealed the game with a 3-run HR.

The best part about the opening day win?!? It was against the Texans Rangers, who missed the playoffs after playing a 163rd game to break a tie-breaker, and LOST! HAHAHA!
