The Houston Astros just swept a four game series against the Oakland A’s at the Coliseum turning around a two week stretch that saw them lose three series in a row. Unfortunately the injury bug bit again as George Springer left the game after being hit by a pitch on the left wrist.

The Houston Astros ended up winning the game 12-9 but I’ve never seen a team with a better record have worse luck with injuries.  George Springer went in for X-rays and they came back negative so for now it’s being reported that he is day-to-day.

The injury happened on the fifth pitch of the game where Jesse Hahn came high and in and in a defensive motion Springer pulled back and got hit on his left wrist.  It was a very cringe-worthy moment for Astros fans as we were just welcoming back Josh Reddick after his recent seven day disabled list stint.

More from House of Houston

Unless you’re a gargantuan Derek Fisher fan, you’re glad Springer is avoiding a trip to the disabled list. But wrist injuries can sap power and linger on so the approach to the injury should be patience. Never has a team been in better shape to not rush guys back off the disabled list than the major league leading Astros with a 50-24 record.

That said this is just one of a laundry list of injuries that have not been able to get in the way of the juggernaut that is the 2017 Houston Astros. The news coincides with Jandel Gustave being out for the rest of the year needing Tommy John Surgery.

Since Springer will not be going on the disabled list, the Astros will not need to make a corresponding move to bring up a minor leaguer to replace him and the Astros will be playing a man down until Springer’s wrist gets back to a healthy state.

Jake Marisnick will be playing center field in the meantime while Springer coalesces. He filled in well today hitting a three run home run as part of an eight run 2nd inning so hopefully Marisnick can keep up the pace. The Astros head to the Pacific northwest to play the Seattle Mariners tomorrow night at Safeco Field.
