The Houston Texans have charged their way through free agency, the NFL draft and now it’s time to work out the young prospects before the official training camp in August.

A lot has happened over this time since early March.

During that period of time, the Houston Texans let A.J. Bouye, John Simon, Quintin Demps, Oday Aboushi and Don Jones head out to pasture in search of a new challenges as well as some extra money to stuff their wallets.

We saw the Tony Romo saga unfold in front of our eyes like a soap opera where the Houston Texans and he were pining for each other.

It almost seemed like a match in made in heaven even though we all knew of his injury history.

He ended up deciding to head to the broadcast booth with CBS and the Texans were shafted at the altar, wondering what would have been had those sacred vows been taken.

The team also drafted DeShaun Watson, Zach Cunningham, D’Onta Foreman, Julién Davenport, Carlos Watkins, Treston Decoud and Kyle Fuller to make them the new Class of 2017.

And while all of this was going on, there was poor Jay Cutler, jettisoned from the Chicago Bears, looking for somewhere to cut him a fat check.

Things weren’t reportedly so rosy between the Texans and Cutler and word got out that the franchise refused to return his phone calls.

Texans general manager Rick Smith denied those reports and added these tidbits about the situation via the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson:

"“I will tell you I was a little surprised by that comment that that reporter made because it was inaccurate,” Smith said at the team’s annual charity golf tourney Monday. “Bus Cook is a friend of mine and obviously represents Jay. I was in Denver when we drafted Jay, so I’ve got a relationship with Jay."

Smith didn’t go into detail on the specifics on the status of that current relationship either.

Bus Cook, a prominent NFL agent that has a star-studded list of clients he represents in football and baseball — including Myles Garrett, this year’s No. 1 pick — was the one accused of getting that rumor out.

Smith also added this:

"“Obviously, we respect him and respect Bus enough that we would not return phone calls. I don’t know where that came from and obviously Jay has decided what he’s doing and moved on.”"

What Smith is referring to is that Cutler has decided to join FOX Sports as a analyst for the upcoming season.

I’m sure the Texans were at the top of his list in terms of interest and when that fell through he decided to try his hand at a possible career move that’ll keep him busy well after he retires.

That is, of course, contingent on if he does a good job and it’s quite possible.

Smith, as usual, tap-danced around the question at hand.

It affirms, in my opinion, that the Texans were locked-in on Watson for quite some time and they did not want to field calls from any more free agents at this point in regard to the quarterback position.

And now, everybody’s happy and this story could be put to bed for good.

I wasn’t looking forward to Cutler under center — if that had to happen — but would’ve been okay with it considering he would’ve been better than Brock Osweiler.

So there — and I’m spent.

Go Texans.
