D’Onta Foreman!

The franchise has gone local with this pick!

The 6’0,” 233-pound running back out of the University of Texas is now officially in the NFL.

How incredible is this?

The Texas City native has proven that one can amass a considerable career without leaving the state lines, to which Foreman has done.

There have been many that have indicated that he should’ve stayed another season in Austin but Foreman wanted to get to the pros will his stock his high considering he had the best season of his collegiate career in 2016.

He’s speedy, crafty and a joy to watch but a case can be made indicating that he’s not ready for the pros yet.

There’s no worries with that — he’ll be working behind Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue and assuming how Foreman does in camp, Jonathan Grimes could be on the way out.

It’s prudent that we carry three running backs because it’s a position that takes such a beating.

Well he be one of those three?

Hmmmmmmm.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, here’s what the experts had to say:

SportsTalk 790’s Jayson Braddock:

NFL.com’s & SportsTalk 790’s Lance Zierlein:

"“Outstanding athleticism for a big runner. Smooth lateral movement. Has feet and agility for slide and go cuts from one gap to the next without a noticeable gear down. Finesses run lanes with subtle shifts and turns …  Usually opts for finesse over power despite his size. Needs to become more decisive and aggressive between the tackles. Inconsistent acceleration into contact. Waits to churn feet until after blow has landed. One pace runner.”"

From WalterFootball.com:

"“Foreman had a tremendous 2016 season and was one of the most productive runners in the nation. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry for 2,028 yards with 15 touchdowns. Foreman isn’t much of a receiver, making just seven catches for 75 yards in 2016, but he is a load as a runner who can run over the opposition.”"

Foreman didn’t line up against an elite defense all of last season.

The closest that ranked in the Top 50 of total defense was Notre Dame at No. 42.

The Fighting Irish are an elite opponent however so it’s worth to watch some tape of how he was able easily break through their defense.

As you know, this turned out to be a two-overtime nail-biter with Texas prevailing 50-47.

Many thought Texas was back in the hunt but sometimes things don’t end the way we intend.

Foreman had a nice performance of 131 yards of 24 carries at 5.5 yards per carry:

Foreman was not drafted to be a starter — at least for now — but as a top prospect that this team wants to groom for the future.

It will be interesting to see how he responds in training camp and how his health holds up — he missed the final two games of the season because of injury.

Next: NFL Draft Round 2: Texans Select LB Zach Cunningham

I personally would’ve like the Houston Texans to draft a tackle but I’m thinking the Texans are going sit a bit and draft Brad Seaton in the 5th or 6th round and fill other needs through multiple avenues.

This pick was all about drafting the best available and Foreman certainly checks all of those boxes.

Foreman rushed for 2,028 yards off 323 carries (6.3 yards per carry) and 15 touchdowns for the Longhorns in 2016, his junior and final season.

Go Houston Texans.
