Houston Texans’ Tidbits:

Tom Savage:  Unless you were under a rock as of late, Savage suffered a concussion in last week’s season finale against the Tennessee Titans.  He is still going through the NFL’s mandatory concussion protocol and will not be available today.  However, he has been present at practice all week but hasn’t participated.

John Simon:  He’s still reeling from that chest injury that he’s battling since the start of the second-half of the season.  It’s bad enough to where he’s been ruled OUT.  Brennan Scarlett will be at the ready to step into his stead.

And here’s the injury report for the Oakland Raiders:

S Nate Allen, Concussion

QB Derek Carr, Ankle

WR Amari Cooper, Shoulder

WR Michael Crabtree, Ankle

WR Andre Holmes, Shoulder

T Austin Howard, Shoulder

S Karl Joseph, Toe

QB Matt McGloin, Left Shoulder

DT Stacy McGee, Groin

G/T Kelechi Osemele, Ankle

T Donald Penn, Knee

LB Malcolm Smith, Hamstring

Allen, Carr and Penn have been ruled OUT.   Cooper, Crabtree, Holmes, Joseph, McGloin, Osemele and Smith are listed as QUESTIONABLE.  Howard and McGee are PROBABLE.

Oakland Raiders Tidbits:

Matt McGloin: McGloin was injured off an illegal hit against the Denver Broncos this past Sunday.  His left shoulder was affected and had to be taken out in favor of rookie quarterback Connor Cook who performed decently enough in place of McGloin.

Cook went 14-for-21 (66.7 percent) for 150 yards with one touchdown to one interception.  Cook has already been ruled as a starter but the team is hoping McGloin and be the backup.

If not, practice squad QB Garrett Gilbert will thrust into the position of being the primary backup.

Donald Penn:  Penn injured his knee badly just before the last snap in the Raiders’ contest against the Broncos.  He was able to finish the game but has been in a lot of pain.

He didn’t not practice at all this week but was still trying to make a valiant effort to play.

As for precaution, he has been held out which would mean the Texans won’t have to worry about the talented offensive lineman wrecking havoc and it will be easier for our guys to get to Cook on the left side.

Menelik Watson is his primary backup but Austin Howard and Vadal Alexander could be brought into fold depending on the protection schemes that are implemented.

The Houston Texans are back in town to rematch the Raiders at NRG Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:35 p.m. CST.

The game will be televised on ABC/ESPN and broadcast on 610 SportsRadio AM/100.3 FM (KILT) & ESPN Deportes 1180 (KGOL) in Spanish.
