For the third straight year the Houston Texans end the season with a 9-7 record, and for the second straight season they clinched the AFC South and have made the playoffs.

For the third straight year the Houston Texans end the season with a 9-7 record, and for the second straight season they clinched the AFC South and have made the playoffs.

To some that is a big accomplishment and something to beat your chest on, but if you have high expectations like mine, truly you have work to do.

Many view Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien as an above average coach and a “quarterback whisperer” after his years with the New England Patriots.

I think that the aforementioned narrative needs to be put to bed and folks should cut the crap.

In a season filled with mediocrity at the most important position in football — the quarterback — the Houston Texans once again won games off the strength of the defense, despite the offenses best efforts to derail that.

Moving forward, the Houston Texans will host Oakland Raiders in the AFC Wild Card Round this Saturday.

Oakland lost Derek Carr — their franchise quarterback — two weeks ago, and just last week their backup Matt McGloin got hurt so rookie Connor Cook has emerged into the spotlight.

It would seem to be the Houston Texans getting good luck at the most opportune time, but with a loss last week to the Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Matt Cassel anything is possible.

Is there any reason to get excited for this game next week?

The play calling, whether it is by O’Brien or George Godsey is terrible, the fan base has no trust in either Tom Savage or Brock Osweiler and even if the Houston Texans do get past the Oakland Raiders can they really contend in the AFC?

The answer to that question is most likely no but when you have fans that love football and fill up NRG Stadium every Sunday no matter what, this ownership does not care.

The dollars are still rolling in ridiculous amounts to the Texans’ coffers.

When you have a head coach who carries himself like Bill Belichick — minus the four championships and countless AFC championship appearances — and treats local media like they are beneath him when they simply question him with rational football questions will there be legit

changes?

Is mediocrity where this Texans franchise will stay forever?

After all it has been 16 years since the Texans defeated the Dallas Cowboys 19-10 in their inaugural season game.

And what has happened in that span?

This team has only netted just two playoff wins to their name only to lose in the next round two seasons in a row (2011-12).

The time is now for this Texans’ organization and coaching staff to put up or shut up.

They need to make some noise in these playoffs — not just win one game — then go home with their heads held up high sniffing their own crap.

We as fans deserve something to be excited about this playoff season as well as some type of semblance of a future for this team.
