Houston Texans: Time To Bench Brock Osweiler Going Forward
With the latest losing skid that the Houston Texans are on, and have been on, it may be time for Brock Osweiler to hang up his helmet for 2016.
With the latest losing skid that the Houston Texans are on, and have been on, it may be time for Brock Osweiler to hang up his helmet for 2016.
We all remember just a week ago Monday with the infamous snap seen round the world, right? Against the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City, rookie QB Brock Osweiler got a face full of green laser.
You can see it in the following video below.
The main hope is that the laser didn’t scramble Osweiler’s brain. But the harsh reality is, it may prove to be an unfortunate 180 turn for the Houston Texans.
You may recall a couple of weeks back that I made a bold prediction of the Texans making it to their own Super Bowl. And while hope may seem temporarily lost, I, ever the optimist, still hold onto the last fabrics of it that I can in saying it still remains a possibility for them.
But how can they still do this, you may ask? There is no simple answer to this. However, little changes can be made to ensure the Texans go as far as possible in the post season.
The first of these changes are going to have to be, dare I say it, sit Brock Osweiler for the remainder of the 2016 season.

Demote him to the rank of backup. This can pave the way for drafted rookie, Tom Savage, to get his taste of big league play.
A big risk? Certainly. But one that may just be necessary to turn things around for the team.
If the front office feels that Savage may be too risky at this point in the season, Brandon Weeden can also factor in as another option.
Far fetched? Not really. Just take a look at some of his four-year career numbers:
25 Games Started
6,462 Total Yards (201 of those rushing)
31 Touchdowns
58% Completion Rate
76% Passer Rating
Not eye popping numbers, I will admit. But are these really any worse than Osweiler’s? Suprisingly, no. In the same amount of time, they both have roughly the same numbers in these categories. The advantage Weeden has over Osweiler is rushing for more yards.
A thrid option I would entertain that will make enough folks’ mouths drop would be to convert WR Braxton Miller back to quarterback, This is the same position he was when drafted out of Ohio State.

In a corresponding move, the team can convert one of the two backup tight ends they have in Ryan Griffin or Stephen Anderson to wide receiver.
The third option is a little bit more complicated, and would take seriously careful planning. However, it is one that still exists should the need present itself.

Unfortunately for the Texans, there is a dire need to fix their 30th ranked offense into something of a juggernaut to make a playoff push this season.
And the schedule does not get any easier for them, with Green Bay up next. That’s followed closely by a game against all three divisional rivals in Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee and another game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
However they address the current offensive woes remains a mystery. But the Texans are running out of time. Something needs to happen….and happen REAL QUICK!
