Houston Texans’ Tidbits:

Jadaveon Clowney:  Clowney has been battling a seemingly minor elbow injury for the past few weeks but it has not stopped his rambunctious play.  Despite being limited in practice all week, he told the Chron’s Aaron Wilson that he’s “good” and that “he’ll be ready to go Sunday.”  The defensive end has 27 sacks, two sacks, nine quarterback hits and one pass defended in 2016.

Lamar Miller:  Miller sustained a shoulder injury Monday night against the Denver Broncos after a 25-yard run and has been limited in practice all week.  He told the Chron’s Aaron Wilson that he hopes he’ll be a full-go but wasn’t sure how much he’ll be able to play as a result of his injury.  A critical part of the Texans’ offense, if Miller can’t go full strength, Alfred Blue will be at the ready to — at the very least — split the carries.

Quintin DempsDemps injured his calf three weeks ago against the Minnesota Vikings and has been upgraded to limited participation in practice this week.  Eddie Pleasant and sophomore corner back Corey Moore will likely be handling the strong safety duties for Sunday.  In another move, the Texans signed safety Don Jones for additional depth on the roster.  His last stint was with the Cleveland Browns in the past two seasons.  It may not be too much longer before Demps sees the field once again, it could be Sunday, it could be later down the line.  With the depth they now have at the position, I suspect that the Texans will bring him along slowly.

Brian Peters The multi-talented member of the Texans injured his quad muscle against the Vikings three weeks ago.  Although he’s listed as linebacker, Peters had been handling the kickoffs as of late because of what Bill O’Brien saw in his work ethic at practice.  Our defensive line is already quite deep so Peters was the odd man out.  Not to mention that he was a kicker in high school and has bounced around the league quite a bit, finding a home with the Texans for now.  Nick Novak will resume the kickoff duties until Peters is ready to return.

And here’s the injury report for the Detroit Lions:

OL Joe Dahl, Illness

TE Eric Ebron, Ankle/Knee

WR Marvin Jones Jr., Not Injury Related

LB DeAndre Levy, Knee/Quad

CB Nevin Lawson, Foot

DT Haloti Ngata, Shoulder

T Riley Reiff, Illness

RB Theo Riddick, Ankle

T Corey Robinson, Ankle

CB Darius Slay, Hamstring

RB Dwayne Washington, Ankle

TE Cole Wick, Knee

Levy and Slay have already been ruled OUT for Sunday.  Lawson, Ngata, Reiff, Robinson and Wick are listed as QUESTIONABLE.  Dahl, Ebron, Jones, Riddick and Washington are PROBABLE.

Detroit Lions Tidbits:

Haloti Ngata:  The fierce defensive tackle for the Lions has been out for the past two weeks with a shoulder injury.  He returned to practice for the first time since then this week but was limited in participation.  He’d be quite a handful for the Texans even he weren’t at full strength but backup Khyri Thornton will be available to make his third straight start in place of Ngata.  He has seven tackles and one forced fumble on the season.

Riley Reiff:  Long-time right tackle Reiff has been suffering from a illness all week but was a limited participant in practice Friday.  Reiff has not missed a start since when he took over the reigns full-time back in the 2013 season.  If he should not be able to go, Cornelius Lucas will have to step in his stead.

Nevin Lawson:  The cornerback has had an incredible return to field to the field after suffering a devastating injury to his foot back in 2014.  He came back strong in 2015 and is off to a solid start so far.  His foot is apparently acting up on him again and he has been limited in practice as a result.  If he can’t go, backup Quandre Diggs will get the start.  Lawson has 27 tackles and three passes defended on the season.

The Texans are back at home to take on the Lions at NRG Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT.

The game will be televised on FOX and broadcast on 610 SportsRadio AM/100.3 FM (KILT) & ESPN Deportes 1180 (KGOL) in Spanish.

Go Texans.
