Once again, the Houston Rockets have shown some aggressiveness toward yet another deadline.

Yes, the waiver deadline is March 1 — by the end of the day — and the Rockets plan to throw their hat in the ring for a guy that will likely be available.

Who is the guy?

None other than guard Kevin Martin.

It has been reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves are prepared to execute a buyout of Martin’s contract, making him available to sign with teams that have interest.

It has been confirmed that the Rockets have that interest as per ESPN 1500AM Twin Cities and KSTP-TV’s Darren Wolfson:

This news comes as not too surprising as the Rockets need additional depth on the bench to which has floundered for a good chunk of the season.

And according to ESPN.com’s Tim MacMahon, The Rockets will face stiff competition for his services as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder all have expressed interest.

All four of these teams have a more likely trajectory of making in a deep run in the playoffs to which I’m sure Martin would be keen on latching onto one of those teams rather than ours, especially with him being in the latter stages of his career.

But you never know, stranger things happened.

As you know, this isn’t Martin’s first rodeo with the team and not the first time Daryl Morey has pined for the veteran’s help.

Martin was acquired by the Rockets back in 2010 in a huge three-team trade that involved the New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings. This was the same deal that forced Tracy McGrady to pack his bags for the Empire State as his next destination.

Martin’s stay was brief as he was dealt in 2012 in the landmark, multi-player deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder that brought James Harden to Houston.

I have personally have a love/hate relationship with Martin.

As I did earlier this decade, although I love his ability to find his shoot and score, I continue to criticize him for his defensive effort, which are lukewarm at best.

And that hasn’t changed either.

But he’d certainly be a solid addition to the Rockets’ roster but I just don’t see Martin here with all of the other teams that want to harpoon him.

We’ll have to see.
