It’s official Houston Texans’ fans.

We’ve crash-landed ourselves into the off season.

After a strong finish to the regular season to win the AFC South and clinch a playoff berth, the effort of the Texans against the Kansas City Chiefs caused us all to sober up and realize that this team is not really that good offensively.

We watched Brian Hoyer throw four picks as he look quite tentative in his decision-making and I witnessed perhaps one of the worst performances that I’ve seen a player make in a Texans uniform.

I didn’t anybody would top Kris Brown‘s sub-par kicking performance in two critical 2009 divisional games against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans for awhile but I think we’ve got somebody else to take his spot.

With so much anticipation that the Texans were going to be competitive, we got ferociously trampled on like a shopper at Wal-Mart trying to get a Black Friday deal.

All things considered, after that 30-0 debacle of a game we saw, it became clearly evident that this team needs a quarterback and in the worst way.

Bob McNair, for the first time ever, went on the record mentioning that we needed a franchise quarterback, signaling that the organization will shift its strategy to making that Priority No. 1.

Finally.

It just took an embarrassment on national television for him to realize that taking care of something so important is a priority.

I tend to wonder if he’s in his own virtual reality, thinking that everything is all fine with the Texans as he counts his billions one-by-one.

Guess what?  It’s not.

So it’s time to get serious about grabbing one now.

But here’s the deal — do the Texans want to win now or do they want to be patient in grooming our future?

With the mood of fans getting more and more impatient, let’s hope they can do something now about it.

The thing is that franchise QBs don’t grow on trees — and it takes a little bit of luck.

Should they opt for free agency?  Should they opt for the draft?

We’ll see.

You know the names for potential draft prospects — Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and even Christian Hackenberg.

None of those names are NFL-ready and we’ll have to bring them along.

Hell, we still have Tom Savage, a 4th-round pick from 2014 that still has a lot to prove but both of his seasons have been riddled with injuries.

But I know of a guy that the Texans should lock-in on.

Who?

Robert Griffin III.

I know, I know — he’s not necessarily a Bill O’Brien-style QB because he loves to run and doesn’t necessarily like to stay in the pocket which is traditional with the style of offense that he runs.

But O’Brien has proven that he can be flexible and he can make adjustments to accommodate a guy that still has a lot of talent and even more to prove.

He has sat on the bench for most of season so I’m sure he’s healed from all of his injuries.

His career is all but finished with the Washington Redskins as he waits patiently to be dealt and rolls his eyes incessantly at Kirk Cousins‘-catchy “you like that?!?” battle cry.

Hell, I think he’s talking to RGIII at times.

No, I don’t think he likes that.

Here’s the kicker though — Griffin is in the final year of his rookie deal that pays him $16.1 million for 2016.

I don’t see the ‘Skins paying that to a backup QB and they’d be better served to use that money on building up the roster.

That means they’ll be willing to listen to offers to trade the distressed QB out of The District.

Or the worst-case scenario — which is likely — is that they cut him if there’s not a taker on his 2016 salary.

The Texans should get into that fray of teams lining up for his services once that time comes!

He can be a bit ego-centric but as far as his character, he’s everything the Texans look for in a player.

So I implore McNair, Rick Smith, O’Brien and the rest of the Texans’ brass to take a long, hard look at RGIII, they won’t regret it if they do.

Griffin, 25, passed for 1,694 yards and threw four touchdowns to six interceptions for a 68.7 completion percentage through nine games (seven starts) back in 2014.

He was a no-show in 2015 as Cousins was healthy and started every game.

Here’s to a strong off season.

Go Texans.
