As both the Houston Texans and the New England Patriots take the field, here’s a few injuries that you need to know about:

For the Texans, here are the players that are listed on the injury report:

RB Alfred Blue, Back

G Brandon Brooks, Illness/Toe

T Duane Brown, Knee

ILB Max Bullough, Shoulder

OLB Jadeveon Clowney, Hamstring

NT Christian Covington, Knee

WR DeAndre Hopkins, Hamstring

CB Kareem Jackson, Ankle

CB Charles James II, Calf

C Ben Jones, Hip

CB Johnathan Joseph, Knee

OLB Whitney Mercilus, Back

T Derek Newton, Elbow/Knee

RB Chris Polk, Knee

WR Cecil Shorts III, Hamstring

DE J.J. Watt, Groin/Hand

Blue, Brooks, Brown, Bullough, Clowney, Covington, Hopkins, Jackson, James, Jones, Joseph, Mercilus, Newton, Polk, Shorts and Watt are all PROBABLE for Sunday.

Houston Texans’ Tidbits:

J.J. Watt: Watt broke his hand in practice this past Wednesday but told the media that he will play Sunday and added that “football is a game where things happen.”  He also said that he’s dealt with worse earlier in his already-storied career.  Just how effective can he be in getting to Tom Brady Sunday night?  We’ll see.  The last time they faced each other, Watt was hard-pressed to get to him as the Patriots were full-strength but with them being decimated with injuries, it may be a bit easier for him to get where he wants to be.  Brady will have his hands full with both Clowney and Watt rushing at him to disrupt.  We’ll have to see how this turns out!

Brandon Brooks:   Before the start of last Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Brooks was rushed to the hospital with what has now surfaced as an ulcer ailment.  He stayed overnight at the hospital as the team flew back to Houston.  Brooks did return to practice Wednesday and Bill O’Brien said that “he did a good job, he was out there, he was fine.”  That’s certainly a good sign for Brooks and the offensive line, who seemed to miss him dearly as the Bills were able get to Brian Hoyer a lot easier and even were able to get two sacks as a result.

And here’s the injury report for the New England Patriots:

WR Danny Amendola, Knee

TE Scott Chandler, Knee

S Patrick Chung, Foot

OL Marcus Cannon, Toe

CB Justin Coleman, Hand

WR Julian Edelman, Foot

TE Rob Gronkowski, Knee

LB Dont’a Hightower, Knee

DE Chandler Jones, Abdomen

OL Josh Kline, Shoulder

S Devin McCourty, Shoulder

WR Matthew Slater, Stinger

TE Michael Williams, Knee

Edelman has been ruled OUT for Sunday.  Amendola, Chandler, Chung, Coleman, Gronkowski, Hightower, Kline and Slater are listed as QUESTIONABLE.  Cannon, Jones, McCourty and Williams are PROBABLE.

New England Patriots Tidbits:

Rob Gronkowski:  Gronk returned to practice this week but was very limited in participating and in commenting just indicating that it was good to be back.  Gronk is the ying to Brady’s yang with him out, things become difficult and more pressure is on Tom to create.  When he’s full strength, his nearly impossible to guard and is virtually unstoppable.  After suffering a terrible tumble to the ground against their Week 12 match up against the Denver Broncos, he seems closer to a return.  Will it be Sunday?  Likely not.  If Scott Chandler can’t go, then Michael Williams will have to carry the load at the tight-end spot.  My best guess is that Chandler will play.

Julian Edelman:  Edelman did return back to practice — albeit limited — this week but he’s still not quite there in terms of being ready to take part in games.  He said he wasn’t surprised to be back on the practice field but wants to be safe & smart with his return and return as soon as possible.  This will be the third-straight game he has missed since their Week 10 match up against the New York Giants.

Danny Amendola:  One of the toughest SOB’s in this league, Amendola returned from a sprained knee last Sunday and caught seven balls for 62 yards.  That also included a 36-yard pass to Brady in a heady trick play.  With the Patriots weapons diminished, it’s highly likely that we’ll see him suit up tomorrow night.  He’s their only hope in terms of a healthy contribution night and out on the wide-out front but Texans’ cast-offs Keshawn Martin and Brandon LaFell will be available to help if needed.

The Texans take on the Patriots at home at NRG Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.

The game will be televised on NBC and broadcast on 610 SportsRadio AM/100.3 FM (KILT) & ESPN Deportes 1180 (KGOL) in Spanish.

Go Texans.
