Texans: J.J. Watt Recognized Despite Down Game

Yes, Week 13 is in the books and the Houston Texans have a unfortunate 30-21 loss in that respective column.

The Texans seemed to playing behind for the whole game as the Rex Ryan-led Buffalo Bills were continuously one step ahead of this team.

Despite all of what I saw this past Sunday, I still felt that we were going to pull it out and win the game.

But they didn’t.

On paper, one would feel that the Bills had significant disadvantage playing the Texans but the thing about Ryan is that he gets the most out of his players.

It was a collaborative team effort and the Bills gave everything they had as if the season was on the line.

Brian Hoyer looked quite harried out there with the Bills defense giving him everything he could handle forcing him to make some bad throws that not only prevented us from roaring back down the stretch but ultimately the chance to win the game as well.

In reality, it was, had the Texans defeated the Bills Sunday, you’d almost want to cancel their hopes of making the postseason because of how strong their division is.

But on the other hand, for the Texans, we’re still far from out and they just to work to win every possible game that they can to have a shot.

The AFC South is up for grabs and it’s all a matter of who wants it more and I certainly hope that my beloved football team is the one to take the honors.

They just have to play smart, hard-nosed football and that won’t lead them astray.

But anyway, despite the lackluster performance from the defense, J.J. Watt shined as the lone star of the Texans this past Sunday.

Pro Football Focus gave him a (+5.0) grade despite not recording a sack or a QB hit since 2011, his rookie year.

It was a quite a significant feat for the Bills to do that but their double and triple-team coverage obviously worked to prevent him from wreaking havoc.

He would’ve recorded a sack and a hit late in the game but those stats were taken away as bone-headed penalties by the rest of the team took them away.

I know he wasn’t too pleased with that!

But you know what?

That’s how great Watt is, still trying to find ways to help his team despite the challenges that he faces week-by-week.

It certainly wasn’t his fault that we lost the game Sunday as there were a myriad of reasons as to why but that’s why teams can live to fight another day.

They have that opportunity ANY GIVEN SUNDAY.

So along with Watt, who where the other top performers as defined by PFF?

Whitney Mercilus (+3.4), Vince Wilfork (+2.8), Chris Polk (+2.1) and Ben Jones (+1.9).

The Texans will have their hands full as the Texans have a prime-time match up with the New England Patriots this Sunday at NRG Stadium.

They’ll try to attempt to give their opponent their third-straight loss which is a feat that likely hasn’t been recorded since the early days of the Tom Brady-era a decade ago.

Let’s get it done — go Texans!
