Houston Texans Tidbits:

J.J. Watt:  Watt had been suffering from a back injury that he sustained last week against the Miami Dolphins.  He has been limited in practice all week with the exception of Friday, where he returned to participate in full.  The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reported that Watt appeared to have “no ill effects from the injury, running well and doing agility drills.”  Bill O’Brien mentioned that he looks like he’s “ready to go.”  Watt is expected to play this Sunday despite his official status of questionable.  But just in case he’s not, Jeoffrey Pagan is on standby as usual.

Benardrick McKinney:  McKinney is still dealing with the effects of a concussion that he sustained against the Jacksonville Jaguars two weeks ago.  The rookie linebacker had been making some noise as a backup up to the point of the injury and had been valuable as far as depth on the line.  Expect Justin Tuggle, Max Bullough or Brian Peters to fill in at middle linebacker as needed to give Brian Cushing a rest.  Bullough had two tackles and one assist and Tuggle had three tackles last Sunday.

Cecil Shorts III:  Shorts will miss his second straight game with an hamstring injury that he sustained against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  This is tough news as he was expected to be one of our key wide outs this season but it has been marred by injury.  Expect Nate Washington to be targeted more which would also result in DeAndre Hopkins getting the lion’s share.  Washington caught nine balls for 127 yards and two touchdowns last week.

Kareem Jackson:  Jackson too was a casualty during the Texans Week 6 match up against the Jags.  He sprained his right ankle and O’Brien categorizes his stay on the injured report to be lengthy by mentioning that “he’ll be out for awhile.”  Rookie corner Kevin Johnson will be asked to step up in his stead — he had two tackles last week against the Dolphins.

And here’s the injury report for the Tennessee Titans:

CB Perrish Cox, Hamstring

WR Harry Douglas, Ribs

C Andy Gallik, Concussion

S Michael Griffin, Knee

DT Sammie Hill, Knee

QB Marcus Mariota, Knee

CB Jason McCourty, Hamstring

Cox, Douglas, and Mariota have been ruled OUT for Sunday.  Gallik and McCourty are listed as questionable.  Griffin and Hill are probable and are good to go.

Tennessee Titans Tidbits:

Marcus Mariota:  Mariota has been suffering from knee injury that he sustained after a late hit from the Dolphins’ Olivier Vernon in the Titans’ Week 6 match up.  Vernon was fined $37,763 for the hit and is currently appealing the decision by the NFL.  He was projected to return last Sunday but was held out as what’s happening this Sunday.  He was ruled out earlier this week, so Ken Whisenhunt must feel that he’s not quite ready to take back the reins under center.  Zach Mettenberger will get the start — he went 22-for-35 for 187 yards, one touchdown and two picks for a 62.4 rating against the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday.  The Texans clearly have an advantage here and they must be able to pounce on this glorious opportunity.

Next: Top Reasons To Be The Houston Texans GM

Jason McCourty:  The talented corner injured his hamstring this past Sunday against the Falcons but was able to finish the game.  He thinks — as well as Whisenhunt — that he’ll be able to play this Sunday.  Opposite corner Parrish Cox will be out this Sunday so McCourty’s presence will definitely be needed.

Andy GallikGallik is still in the concussion protocol stages and his presence won’t be guaranteed for Sunday.  But if he’s able to pass through all stages, then he will be able to give it a go.  He took a stinger last Sunday against the Falcons and Joe Looney had to finish the game for him.  Of course, if Gallik can’t go, then Looney will start in his place.

The Texans take on the Titans Sunday at NRG Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon CDT.

The game will be televised on CBS and broadcast on 610 SportsRadio AM/100.3 FM (KILT) & ESPN Deportes 1180 AM in Spanish.
