Houston Texans: What The Hell Is Going On?!?

Did you hear that Houston Texans fans?

You didn’t?  Well, I did.

That was the sound of the status our season dropping faster than a rock.

It’s painful to watch and the way the narrative of these games that have played out so far this season is eerily reminiscent of the 2013 season.

Hell, I’ve had discussions with many season ticket holders clamoring to either get rid of their tickets or actually not considering renewing their tickets for the upcoming season.

It’s bad guys — you know it and I know it.

There no sense of urgency, there’s no common regard for tact, it’s just all about going out there and collecting a paycheck.

It’s sickening but this is the impression that I’m getting from a team whose expectations were at the utmost of highness at the start of the season.

But here were are, staring at the bottom of the barrel of the AFC South division wondering what the heck has happened over the past five games.

Things were looking promising — after a strong preseason along with intense coverage by HBO’s acclaimed documentary series Hard Knocks, the Texans were poised to come out and get the job done.

But to no avail.

Our quarterback situation is far from being resolved as it’s quite clear that either Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett are not the future of this team to take the reins at center.

These quarterbacks are what they are and there’s no way that we can transmogrify them into something they’re not.

They’re in the NFL for a reason but they just don’t have the talent to carry a team.

The crazy thing is that the Texans’ offensive numbers are up — they’re now 6th in the league in total offense in terms of yardage (396.2) up from 17th last season but are 21st in yards per attempt which is at a paltry 5.1.

So the numbers look great from the outside looking in but the deal is simple — we’re not moving chains as we should be to get into the end zone.

The Texans have 97 points on the season — good for being ranked 11th — just a few slots above last season’s ranking of 14th.

Even the players have lost faith in strategies that the coaches carry out every week, mentioning that it’s too much like college atmosphere than a professional football environment.

Bill O’Brien‘s seat is far from hot as this is his 2nd year as the HC.

But Rick Smith’s seat needs to be scalding because of the moves he has made over the years — guys like Amobi Okoye, Louis Nix III and possibly even Xavier Su’a-Filo have the characteristics of being draft busts.

They were all high picks — first, third and second-round picks respectively — and for the most part, they have absolutely nothing to show to justify their draft status.

Smith seems to have the vote of confidence by the McNairs — Bob and Cal — but I honestly think that’s it’s time for him to ride off into the sunset.

It’s time for a new voice in the front office and we will continue to be the epitome of mediocrity as long as Smith is at the helm so he has got to go!

Look what Mike Maccagnan — a former Texans executive — has done with the New York Jets.

He has turned them into a winner with a 3-1 record so far, drafted well for 2015, hired a talented coach in Todd Bowles and breathed new life into journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Fitz is doing things we never would’ve seen here in H-Town.

It’s all about finding the right mix of talent to make the engine go and it’s just not happening right now.

I honestly don’t care who starts at quarterback now but I just want this team to finish the season in a respectable manner.

As banged up as this division is this year, the Texans do still have a chance to get hot and take this division.

But with the way things are going, that’s likely not going to be the case.

I’ve had enough of this crap and we as fans should not have to take this crap anymore!

We spend tons of our hard-earned money to watch this team play and we continue to be the ones holding the bag at the end!

But if we stop buying tickets, stop buying their merchandise and going to games, fans can hit them where it hurts but you I know that won’t happen.

The wait-list to be a season-ticket holder is years-long so if someone drops their season ticket package, there will be another person to replace them.

The Texans know this and it’s sad.

Enough is enough — we need a quality product out on the field — I’m tired being the laughingstock of the NFL, I want to be just as respected as an organization such as the Green Bay Packers but we’re far from that now.

It’s time — will the Texans’ brass answer that call?

    We’ll have to see.
