Texans: Jadeveon Clowney Receives Highest Ranking Ever

Houston Texans fans — t-minus two more days to redemption!

In my opinion, it can’t come soon enough.

Being 0-2 is really a turning point in the season because not many teams make the playoffs after notching such a record with the most notable exception being the New York Giants Super Bowl run a few years back.

But we can cut the Super Bowl aspirations as fans — right now, it’s all about the Texans going out and winning a game.

Baby steps guys…baby steps!

I know in my heart that this team is quite talented but it’s just that the gift that God gave these guys to play football and do it well is not gleaming.

Yes, I understand that there are some guys on our roster that will never cut the mustard but everybody needs to step and play collectively as a unit to level as if it’s their last stand.

I certainly hope that I see that on Sunday.

We’re heavily-favored to win Sunday afternoon’s home match up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and if we don’t complete the task assigned — winning the football game — there will need to be a serious evaluation of this team, from the top all the way to the bottom.

Our opponent is inexperienced in many areas and we must pounce on each and every weakness to take care of business.

But there’s a bright side with one member of our team this year.

Yes, I’m talking Jadeveon Clowney.

He’s back with a vengeance ya’ll and doesn’t seem to letting up in terms of proving his worth.

Even though he’s not stuffing the stat sheet, he’s doing the things that he was hired to do as a linebacker.

  • As a matter of fact, Pro Football Focus has given Clowney the highest ranking ever in a game, demonstrating that the 2014 No.1 pick is getting back on track.

According to PFF, Clowney received a (+3.5) and was considered the top performer for the Texans this past Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

They note that his three quarterback hurries and superior edge rushing allows him to earn that rating.

He also had two tackles last week in addition to four tackles and one assist in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is certainly glorious news for a guy the Texans have bet big on to be a major support beam for this franchise.

Let’s just hope that his knee holds up as he elevates to the player we expect to be, the one we saw wreck havoc on offenses back in college days at South Carolina.

Who were the other top performers last week?

Right guard Brandon Brooks (+2.6), free safety Rahim Moore (+2.2), inside linebacker Brian Cushing (+1.4) and outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus (+1.4).

It’s important to note that no offensive players were ranked positively so they’ve got to get their head out of their rears!

Let’s get it done Sunday fellas — go Texans!
