Trevor Ariza: HOH’s Week 23 Silver Booster Award Winner

facebooktwitterreddit

Wow — what a week!

The Houston Rockets were able to get through a stretch of games that had them playing four games in five days with each being a back-to-back.

The fact that they came out with a 3-1 record is nothing short of amazing, considering the opponents they faced provided a considerable challenge for them.

The Rockets could’ve even beat the Toronto Raptors but that’s just water under the bridge.

The Rockets have faced a plethora of challenges with injuries to their front line with Dwight Howard, Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas out during this stretch as well.

And there the Rockets were — still finding ways to win despite the challenges that they were faced.

A team absolutely cannot win basketball games without at least a dominant presence in the paint because eventually teams that do have such weapons in their arsenal, will eat you up for lunch.

But the heady play of Josh Smith, Corey Brewer and the emergence of Clint Capela has helped the Rockets head to the finish line of the regular season regally, not haphazardly.

But there has been one guy that has shown up for work every game this season.

As a matter of fact, he has been the only Rocket to do so.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — today on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Silver Booster Award

And this week’s Silver Booster Award goes to…

Trevor Ariza!

Ariza has played an impressive stretch of basketball as of late, playing lock-down defense, shooting the ball well and attacking the glass whenever deemed necessary.

He tends to be overlooked because this is something he does night in/night out but he deserves to be recognized for efforts.

But there he was, showing up for work when scheduled and making the best of it.

It’s quite simple — if Ariza was not in the lineup for the games we won last week, the Rockets don’t win those games.

I’m serious.

The things he does on both ends of the floor are remarkable and it goes to show how much of a valuable asset he is to our team.

It goes to show that he has even more value than his former counterpart in Chandler Parsons.

Ariza is light-years ahead of Parsons in terms of defensive prowess, we all know that’s something CP had to work on throughout his time with the Rockets.

I do have to sometimes criticize his shot selection at times but he does so much other things that I’ll turn a blind eye to it.

It goes to show that the Rockets got a bargain in terms of signing the one-time champion to an four-year, $32 million deal this past off season.

By the way, Ariza averaged 17.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.25 SPG, 3.3 APG, while shooting 22-for-52 from the field (42.3 percent) and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe (84.6 percent).

That’s not a bad stat line from a role player if you ask me.

He’s clearly a player that clearly knows his strengths/weaknesses and has figured out how to find a medium and utilize his strengths to help his team win.

So take a bow Trevor, your expertise will be needed when the playoffs start to which I’m positive you’ll come up big.

But you already know that — that’s the mindset that you’ve had all season.

Six games to go…

Go Rockets!
