Corey Brewer: HOH’s Week 20 Silver Booster Award Winner

Thank goodness this week is over!

This wasn’t the most graceful of weeks for the Houston Rockets as it comes to a close.

This week definitely demonstrated how our weaknesses were exposed and they were done so big time by our opponents.

The biggest weakness you might ask?

Our lack of a large presence in the paint!

This is certainly something that has plagued teams since the evolution of the game at the turn of the last century.

If you don’t have dominant big man on your roster, you’re likely not going to win at the highest of levels.

It makes so much of a difference for a team to have one at their arsenal to protect the rim and cause match up problems alike.

Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal…I could go on and on.

All these men have multiple championships because they were unstoppable for their respective teams.

In our case, Dwight Howard is that guy, one of the greatest big men of this era of professional basketball.

He’ll be back soon but until then, this Rockets team will have to press on without him.

And they can’t make excuses in regard to his absence either.

But any way, it was a tough week for our team as they had plenty of rest but finished 0-2 against the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz.

But despite how horrid the Rockets looked this week, there was one guy that played consistently above the fold and did not relent.

It made me plenty proud.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — today on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Silver Booster Award

And this week’s Silver Booster Award goes to…

Corey Brewer!

Brew has always showed up for work, day-in and day-out but this week was special for him.

His intense-level of play was just pure outstanding to the point where he was in the upper echelon of effort versus the rest of the team.

It was a thrill to watch as he led the Rockets comeback march against the Blazers after being 11 down in the final three minutes.

He scored 13 points in that stretch and if it wasn’t for the three-point attempt that he missed with a few ticks left on the clock, the conversation about that game would’ve been different.

He hoisted the team on his shoulders as he pressed on toward the ultimate goal of getting the W.

Although the fruits of the effort turned out otherwise, one can’t discount the high-level of play Brew emanated.

For the week, Brew averaged 24.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG while shooting 19-for-31 FG (61.3 percent) and 4-for-9 from three (44.4 percent).

As this season hits the home stretch, Brew will be an integral part of the what the Rockets do off the bench and has quite honestly played light-years better than Trevor Ariza, his starting counterpart.

I hope he decides to stay with the Rockets.

But as well as he is playing, his stock continues to increase and teams will be clamoring for his services.

I think he likes it here but I’m not sure if he loves it here but we’ll see about that in the off season.

Until then, we can enjoy more of Brew’s unwavering effort to help this basketball team win.

Thank you Brew for making this week watchable because it wouldn’t have without you.
