J.J. Watt: HOH’s Week 17 Golden Bull Award Recipient

The melodrama that was the Houston Texans season has now come to an end.

Luckily, the outcome of this season was a lot more positive than last year’s.

I remember I had went on large rant on my personal Facebook account after last season’s horrid finish in regard to what changes we needed to make and who needs to get the axe.

I’m pleased to say that things were a lot different as far as tone — with a few tweaks, this can and will be good for a long time.

We certainly have the right guy coaching the team in Bill O’Brien — he has instituted a culture of hard work and excellence that each player takes quite seriously.

The players seem to have a fire in their eyes and fire within them that cannot and will not be extinguished.

Had a couple of games earlier season gone their way — there were in every game except the one against the New York Giants in Week 4 — they’d likely be preparing for their opponent for this upcoming weekend start of the NFL playoffs.

We came close, right down to the last game of the season.

I’m actually not bummed that the team didn’t make the playoffs because we had a chance all the way down to the wire.

They did what the needed to do to stay alive which was win the football game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The almost had the help they needed with the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the San Diego Chargers 19-7 but the Cleveland Browns fizzled late in the game against the Baltimore Ravens causing them to lose the game 20-10.

That definitely sealed the fate and dashed any chances the Texans had.

It was good run though and I had predicted that there’s no reason why the Texans shouldn’t finish 9-7.

They did and it certainly indicates that the future is bright with the pieces we have so far.

There’s a lot of work to do in the off-season with the upcoming draft and there are many Texans who are free agents — particularly Kareem Jackson — who the Texans may have to make a tough decision to either cut  reworking other guys deals to keep him.

We’ll have to see about that as well.

But there’s a guy that definitely is the centerpiece — the reason why our season was so successful.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — we started at the beginning of the season and on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Golden Bull Award

And this week’s final Golden Bull Award goes to…

J.J. Watt!

He has won our award five times this season — heck, we should create an award named after him!

Watt has been nothing short of amazing his entire season.

Teams have to game plan separately for him and he commands double and triple-team coverage just to limit his effectiveness.

It didn’t work.

He had perhaps the best season of his career with all the terrorizing he did on both sides of the football.

He sacked, he swatted footballs, he forced fumbles, he even caught passes for touchdowns and did the “nae-nae” dance in jubilation!

That’s so damn cool and I am thrilled that this cyborg of a human being is on our side.

Watt is a for sure lock for NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award but he deserve more — like the NFL MVP Award!

Although he will be seriously discussed as a candidate, it will be unlikely that he will win that honor.

But stranger things have happened so I’m crossing my fingers.

John McClain has got to put his vote in for him!

I know he doesn’t want to look like a homer but this guy is doing things that have never been done before out on the football field.

Multiple seasons with 20+ sacks?  Lawrence Taylor, arguably the greatest defensive player ever to pick up the pigskin, couldn’t even do that.

Just put that vote in John.

You’ll make H-Town proud as well as Watt fans worldwide — without Watt, we would’ve likely finished close to where we were last year.

It’s sad but the truth.

Hmmm, let’s see…

20.5 sacks, 78 combined tackles, 10 pass deflections, five fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles, one safety and five touchdowns.  Three of those were receiving touchdowns, one off a fumble and the last one was off an interception for a 80-yard return that was heard ’round the world!

I nearly lost it when I saw it live against the Buffalo Bills for Week 4!

I knew then that this season was going to be something special and he has not disappointed at all.

He is the epitome of how a professional athlete should conduct himself — on and off the field.

I’m not sure how the voting will go down but he will be my MVP no matter what happens.

More from Houston Texans

What’s in store for next season?

Who knows?

But one things for sure — he’ll be out on the football giving 110 percent in the game he loves.

He has continued to say that if you pay him $2, he will give $3 worth of work.

That’s not going to change.

Thank you J.J. for making the season interesting!

Go Texans!
