J.J. Watt: HOH’s Week 15 Golden Bull Award Recipient

What a bizarre game for the Houston Texans against the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday.

I honestly think that this team is cursed at quarterback.

Since last season, this team has gone through six different quarterbacks — Matt Schaub, T.J. Yates, Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett and Tom Savage.

The team may turn to Keenum who was just signed Monday or Thad Lewis who was signed last month but has been inactive up until this point.

I had always liked that Fitz the innate capability to run with the football to get the yards that he needed but had continue to worry that he’d go head first to stop his momentum.

Most quarterbacks know how and when to slide and it seemed as if that was not Fitz’s cup of tea.

This time, it cost him his season as possibly the Texans as his leg collided with a Colts’ defender during one of his gains causing him to be carted off the field.

Then in comes Savage.

He seemed quite tentative out there and never really seemed to get into a rhythm.

But what can you expect?

He was thrown into his first NFL game against a fierce opponent, one that he likely did not even fathom of playing in.

Savage too was injured during the game, hyper-extending his knee knocking him out of next week’s contest and possibly for the season.

He ended up going 10-for-19 with 127 yards passing on the day for a 51.9 QB rating.

The defense was the only consistent part of the Sunday’s match up with the Colts keeping the Texans within striking distance.

There was one individual who I consider the captain of the defense and just the best player overall in the NFL.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — we started at the beginning of the season and on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Golden Bull Award

And this week’s Golden Bull Award goes to…

J.J. Watt!

As I predicted, I knew Watt was going to bring it.

He brings it every game but I knew it was just going to be a bit more than what he normally does.

Is that even possible?

It is — he can do just about everything out there on the field just short of starting under center.

As dire as our quarterback situation is, the thought crossed my mind.

Can he throw?

I’m sure he can — I’d be concerned the referees would be changing the footballs out on regular basis as a result of Watt’s massive strength deflating them from his throws.

But that’s far-fetched and we’ll have a quarterback with some experience starting under center Sunday.

He was everywhere out on the field, was successfully able to get to Andrew Luck for the sacks/hits and even drew a penalty on the Colts which certainly helped the Texans stay in the game.

This guy will get some votes for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award but will not win it.

He is a lock for Defensive Player of the Year for sure — there’s nobody that comes even close to what he’s doing.

More from Houston Texans

By the way, that cyborg of a human being had six combined tackles — five solo’s and one assist — and 2.0 sacks on the game.  He also had one pass deflection.

It was just another day at the office for J.J. with an extra shot of espresso.

Keep it up J.J. — it has been a privilege watching you do work this season.

Go Texans!
