Ryan Fitzpatrick: HOH’s Week 13 Golden Bull Award Recipient

Wow!  The Houston Texans played some amazing football this past Sunday!

I knew that they were going to beat the Tennessee Titans but I would’ve never envisioned that they would do it the way that they did.

It wasn’t only a win — it was a statement of dominance.

A demonstration of dominance of showing how much superior we are over the struggling Titans.

I know that’s not saying much but you have to celebrate these victories when you can.

And I’m definitely doing so!

This was certainly one of the best performances the Texans have taken this season!

And the statistics don’t lie either.

The team has continued to keep their penalties low (5-for-40), committed only one turnover and were extremely efficient on third downs.

In fact, they were 11-of-17 (65 percent) and 1-for-1 on 4th down conversions.  Wowzers!

They had more offensive yards (457 to 320) and held on to the ball longer (33:16 to 26:44) than the Titans.

In past seasons, holding on to the ball longer would mean bad news for the Texans but not now with Bill O’Brien‘s new offense installed.

I just wish that the Texans would take the field like this every game but I understand that not every opponent will let them do what they did this past Sunday.

Nonetheless, there was one player who made THE absolute difference in winning that football game and I think that nobody else is more deserving than this individual.

It honestly caught me off guard as well.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — we started at the beginning of the season and on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Golden Bull Award

And this week’s Golden Bull Award goes to…

Ryan Fitzpatrick!

Fitz was sensational last Sunday — I had to keep wiping my eyes just to make sure it was same guy out there on the football field.

This guy was out there making good decisions, throwing the deep ball and using his legs to get the yards that he needed.

They way he played last Sunday was what I was expecting to see out of Fitz this season and it’s good to know that he has something left in the tank!

Fitz went 24-for-33 for 358 yards with six touchdowns and no picks.

SIX touchdowns?!? NO picks?!?

He also had a 147.5 QB rating — the second-highest in franchise history.

I honestly thought I was dreaming — if you would’ve told me than Fitz was going to pass for six touchdowns and not throw a single pick, I would’ve told that you were out of your mind.

What has gotten in to him?

It seemed that everybody on the offense had their turn to catch a touchdown pass from him, like he was giving out candy from of his jack-o-lantern to excited kids on Halloween.

But, he did that and that was the beauty of the whole thing!

O’Brien suggested that his benching for the past two games may have helped.

"“Like I said last week, maybe it helped Fitz to step back,” O’Brien said Sunday. “You never want to see anybody get hurt like Mallett did, but maybe it helped Fitz to see how the offense was operated.”"

Now I know J.J. Watt had an incredible game, he scored another touchdown as a fullback too and terrorized whomever was under center for the Titans.

But Fitz was the difference-maker and he moved this offense to places I’d think they’d never go.

I have to be frank, I never thought he’d win our weekly award because someone else on the team would do something more spectacular but I have to give credit where it’s due.

By the way, those six touchdowns are a franchise-record by a quarterback — yep, better than David Carr, Sage Rosenfels and Matt Schaub all put together.

He is only one of eight quarterbacks who has thrown for more than four touchdowns in a game with three different teams.

Most would take Fitz’s performance as a grain of salt, but he deserves to be lauded for his efforts.

I certainly hope that he can keep this up — not only for team’s success because we do have a slimmer of hope for a playoff berth but for his sake.

I’m sure about his future with the Texans but this success should definitely be celebrated.

More from Houston Texans

He truly redeemed himself and should hold his head up high knowing that he has got his groove back at least for now.

I’m proud and Texans’ nation should be as well.

Keep doing what you’re doing Fitz!  Keep that beard shaved — it’s an omen!

Go Texans!
