Houston Texans: Week 6’s HOH Golden Bull Award Goes To…

facebooktwitterreddit

The Houston Texans had a short week to transition from competing against an interstate rival to a division rival.

Two tough losses in a row.

The Texans gave a solid effort against the Cowboys and take away a few miscues, the team would’ve been the victor in that match up.

The Texans fell to the Cowboys 20-17 in overtime.

Then on to this past Thursday night…

As I expected, the team was quite shaky out the gate — it’s understandable — they had three full days rest at best and the dents and dings on our team are starting to mount up quite a bit.

The Indianapolis Colts quickly jumped out on the Texans and at the end of the 1st quarter, the team was staring at a 24-0 deficit.

Andrew Luck got things going on the ground and in the air productively — the Texans simply could not stop either.

Trent Richardson scored the first touchdown off a five-yard run, Ahmad Bradshaw then was the next off a five-yard pass and Coby Fleener was the third touchdown of the quarter off a four-yard pass.

Throw in a 27-yarder by Adam Vinatieri and there you go — 24-0.

Ouch.

It looked like it was going to be another long night.

However, the team knuckled down and concentrated with the task at hand — winning the football game.

The Texans finally answered with a Ryan Fitzpatrick short four-yard strike to Andre Johnson for the touchdown — his first of the season and getting the Texans on board.

The team was finally able to stop their motor from sputtering but there was one well-oiled cog that simply would not let the engine fail once again.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — we started at the beginning of the season and on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Golden Bull Award

And this week’s Golden Bull Award goes to…

J.J. Watt!

Watt is now a three-time recipient of the award and I honestly can’t think of anyone else more deserving than he.

He was everywhere out on the field and certainly made his presence known.

He tackled, he sacked, batted away balls and even took a Luck fumble to the house for a touchdown.

I still have to wonder to myself if this man that is the anchor of our defense is even human.

Goodness gracious!

The Colts were missing key offensive lineman in Hugh Thornton and Jack Mewhort — and because they had a lot of inexperience on their offensive line, I knew that this would be the opportunity for Watt to get to the quarterback.

And did he…

He has two sacks to his credit and it took him a mere three minutes into the beginning of the game to get his first.

His second came right at the start of the 2nd half…

Each of those sacks were for a loss of five yards combined.

That’s quite mighty for one man.

It seems to be when this guy is charged up, the electricity somehow transfers to the rest of the team to get them to play harder.

But the play everybody will be talking about for quite some time will be the fumble recovery he made.

Not only that, but he ran it back for 45 yards and scored a touchdown!

Once he gets going, it’s impossible to stop him so the Colts’ defense just let him keep going!

I went nuts when he did as well as the rest of Texans’ fans at NRG Stadium, in the surrounding parking lots and those watching the game at home or in bars on television.

He even got stylish after running it in doing the Nae Nae after crossing the plane to get into the end zone!

The Nae Nae has spread like wildfire across social media into football stadium end zones and basketball courts nationwide.

It was derived directly from WeAreToonz, the four-piece hip-hop group from Atlanta.

He is just an incredible player that is extremely deserving of the league MVP award.

More from Houston Texans

His candidacy will depend on how this team does this season.

If the team does make the playoffs, the voters will seriously have to give him a look because he will one of the reason why they got there in the first place.

Brilliant, outstanding, stellar, superior…whatever.  All these words describe Watt and what type of player he is.

Oh yeah, the stats — he had seven tackles, three assists and two ferocious sacks!

Thanks for making this Texans’ season enjoyable to watch J.J. — I’m positive that there’s more in store for you.

Take a bow.

Go Texans!
