Manning, 32, was cut by the Texans earlier this offseason and signed by the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran safety did not make it on the Bengals 53-man roster. To make room for Manning, the Texans cut Chris Clemons, the safety they signed earlier this offseason to replace Manning, when Manning wouldn’t take a pay cut.
Thomas, 27, was signed this offseason and was expected to battle for the team’s slot receiver position. He had a strong camp but missed time with a head injury. WR Keshawn Martin will likely take over as the team’s slot receiver. WR Damaris Johnson, claimed yesterday from the Philadelphia Eagles, will be the Texans 5th receiver.
The Texans continued to make other moves yesterday to make room for their three waiver claims. DB Josh Victorian was waived, following the addition of Darryl Morris from San Francisco. OT Will Yeatman was placed on IR. He suffered a concussion during camp, and wasn’t able to play in any games during the preseason. OT Jeff Adams, claimed yesterday from the Tennessee Titans, will take his spot on the roster.
Barring other unexpected moves, the Texans 53-man roster should now be set for their week 1 tilt against the Washington Redskins.
