The separation between Chandler Parsons and the Houston Rockets has just become real.
Notwithstanding less than two weeks after he has become a team member of the Dallas Mavericks, shots have already been fired across bows.
The fuel to this fire was derived from an interview James Harden gave declaring that he and Dwight Howard were part of the cornerstone to the Rockets.
Harden is in the Philippines doing charity work and was asked by the Philippine Star’s Joaquin Henson yesterday if he was concerned about the Rockets’ future without Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons.
Here’s the quote heard ’round the world:
“Dwight (Howard) and I are the cornerstones of the Rockets,” Harden told Henson. “The rest of the guys are role players or pieces that complete our team.”
Harden’s quote made a lot of impact — it seemed to create a media tremor so powerful that the aftershock could be felt here in the Lone Star State, some 9,000 miles away.
Of course, the sports press had a field day with this!
Parsons, who was interviewed later in the day yesterday by Jay Mohr on his radio show, Jay Mohr Sports, was asked what did he think of Harden’s comments.
“That’s a pretty ridiculous statement if he meant that, and that’s part of the reason why I wanted to go to Dallas because I’m ready for the next step.” Parsons told Mohr. “I’m ready for the bigger role and I’m ready for more leadership.”
This definitely indicates that Parsons was getting extremely wary of being the third wheel to the Rockets drive to thrive.
You’ll even hear the conspiracy theorists say that he may have had an “agenda” in terms of not giving it his all when it counted.
Does Damian Lillard still make that shot? Were there issues in the locker room that we didn’t know about?
We’ll likely never know…
But just off of that comment alone made by Parsons, it makes one think.
Or, I may be just over thinking this and it may be just hot air bellowing from a guy that feels he just got publicly dissed by someone who he thought had his back.
Parsons obviously feels he is more than a role player.
Either way, this could be the catalyst to an I-45 rivalry to the likes we’ve never seen!
I honestly can’t wait until the 2014-15 schedule is released, I’m circling all of the Rockets/Mavs match ups on my calendar in red!
Here we go!
