Houston Astros Trade Rumors: Detroit Tigers Eyeing Chad Qualls

The Detroit Tigers have been eyeing Houston Astros RP Chad Qualls, according to Jon Heyman (CBS Sports).

The Tigers are said to have inquired about Qualls while the Angels, Braves, and Orioles are among teams that fit for Sipp, who’s said to have drawn the most interest of any Astros player.

Chad Qualls, 35, has a 1.78 ERA and 11 saves in 35.1 innings pitched this season.

The veteran closer has a 31/4 K/BB ratio which should make him a sought after relief pitcher during the trade deadline season.

The Tigers have been looking for another reliever to help make a push in the AL Central. However, they just added Joakim Soria last night from the Texas Rangers, and that could push them out of the market for reliever.

The Tigers and Astros made a trade last July when the Astros sent Jose Veras to Detroit for Danry Vasquez and David Paulino. The Astros would likely be looking for a similar haul if they were to trade Qualls.

MLB’s trade deadline is July 31st at 3:00 PM CT.
