The Houston Texans have waived Brennan Williams according to Field Yates (ESPN).

Williams, 23, was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. He thanked the Texans on Twitter following the news.

Williams never played a single snap in the NFL due to an injury he suffered during non-contact drills in last year’s minicamp. He was expected to back up Derek Newton at right tackle.

The 2013 3rd round didn’t go as planned for Texans GM Rick Smith. The Texans released DE Sam Montgomery (the 95th overall pick) last season and now Williams (89th overall pick), both of whom played a total of zero snaps in the NFL.

Missing with two third-round picks and the majority of your draft won’t keep a GM employed in the NFL much longer. Smith is in danger of losing his job if this team doesn’t get on track soon.

Texans rookies reported earlier today and veterans are expected to report later this week. Training Camp officially starts on July 25th.
