Appel… The kid is seriously struggling.

It’s getting worse every time I check on him. If Appel is a bust and Aiken doesn’t sign……. damn, bad time a for Lunhow. Hope he has a salvation plan. And I hope Crane takes a serious look at what Lunhow is doing with these high draft picks.

      • JR Carroll

Completely agree. I’ve been with him every step of the way but if he screws this up it could easily be a loss in faith in his strategy and I for one would hate to be looking at the fruits of his labors with a new gm that isn’t as good at what he does bc he couldn’t get the 1-1 right. Which unfortunately is the only thing he’s screwed up so far. Pitchers are hard to draft high with accuracy. Appel isn’t a bust yet but he is broken right now. As for Aiken I think by the deadline tomorrow will get offered 6.5 million bc JL knows he can’t blow this. Hopefully they have time to sign Nix as well. Marshall I will definitely be following your career as well. These 3 high schools are some of the best in the country. Gold with team USA under 18. I hope Crane sees that the right decisions were made based on the information at hand. If that means paying a bit more for posssibly a great prospect that may get hurt at some point soon. Plus getting another top high school arm the is very promising on his own. Does it matter if we get both for the slot of 1-1?

If he is not identifying the best player in the draft, or at.east a top five or top ten player in every draft, we need to find someone to replace him. I’m not giving up on Appel yet, and I really hope he signs the young arms tomorrow. But if I’m Crane, and he can’t real in Aiken, I’m not sure how I’m feeling about letting him spear head my draft moving forward. Idk, maybe I’m just sour because it seems like all Houston GM’s having a crappy month.

          • JR Carroll

Without having an MRI before drafting him he made the right call. The kid hit 97 with good control his last start. My issue is with the handling of the MRI results. Offering 5mil for a possibly injured player I think was fine but then the reports of only offering 3.4 mil came out. WTF….

Unless the media has presented the story incorrectly.

      • Astros Future

Definitely a rough time. Guess we will find out what happens tomorrow with Aiken and Nix.

        • JohnE H-Town

Yep. Fingers crossed. I feel that our system still lacks really high end pitching prospects. And after Correa, I’m not sure who the next difference maker is. Is there another Springer or Altuve down at the farm coming next year? I think we all expected to be Appel to at least be heading to Corpus by now. Folty is also struggling. McCullers not that impressive either this season thus far. I’m getting nervous this “rebuild” could last longer than anticipated.

          • Astros Future

I think the positive in our system right now is depth. Guys like Aplin, Kemp, Gregor, Kyle Smith, Rollins, Shirley and others have a chance to contribute to a big league club although they may never be considered top prospects.

          • JohnE H-Town

I agree, lots of decent NBA guys, but right now I feel like the only guy to hang our hat on is Correa, I hope that soon changes. We need Aiken.

  • Astros Future

Appel’s struggles are concerning but I think it is too early to call him a bust.

    • JohnE H-Town

You are correct, it is too early. But there is high pitched beeping going off right now at least
